Plumber - Maintenance Mechanic

Summary: Performs skilled installations, repairs and maintenance of plumbing systems, fixtures and related equipment. Also performs installation, inspection, testing, preventive maintenance and minor repairs on HVAC, boiler, fire detection, mechanical and electrical systems, as needed. Also performs basic carpentry, painting and general maintenance activities on the building and on equipment, as needed. Responsibilities: 1. Performs skilled work of a licensed plumber to include, but not limited to: Repairs domestic hot and cold water lines at all NHCS facilities, -Repairs heat loop and hot water line for heat system, and chill water lines, -Repairs steam lines for NGH, NDH and ECC, -Repairs sprinkler system at NGH, -Installs, relocates and repairs medical gas line, oxygen vacuum, medical air, nitrous oxide for NGH, NDH and ECC, -Installs, relocates, repairs and replaces water lines and air lines for new equipment, -Installs and repairs irrigation system, -Assists in boiler and support equipment repair, -Cleans sewer lines, and repairs, replaces or adds new lines as needed. 2. Performs routine installation, maintenance and repairs on facility, equipment and systems, as assigned, and as determined competent to include, but not limited to: Installs or makes repairs on pumps, engines, motors, conveyor systems and laboratory equipment, -Performs general maintenance such as painting, adding chemicals to boiler, changing gas tanks, refueling vehicles, running incinerator, patching holes, fixing leaky fixtures, unclogging commodes, and changing filters, belts, locks, ballast, light bulbs and ceiling tiles, -Installs, inspects and tests fire extinguishers and fire alarm systems, -Performs basic carpentry such as putting up sheetrock and shelving, -Assists licensed maintenance mechanics with repairs on electrical, plumbing, HVAC, boiler, pneumatic, irrigation, sprinkler and sterilizing systems. 3. Performs preventive maintenance, inspections and instrument readings on equipment, machines, systems and facility, as assigned, and as determined competent. 4. Provides for the safety of self and others. 5. Promotes positive relations. 6. Uses and maintains equipment, tools, materials and supplies. 7. Documents work actions and provides support for administrative functions to include, but not limited to: Maintains logs, records and reports pertaining to work orders and actions, Participates in monitoring inventories of parts, supplies and chemicals, Estimates material requirements necessary for supplies and equipment. 8. As assigned, provides technical instruction to other or new employees. 9. Performs other duties, as needed. Other Information: Education Requirements: • High school graduate or GED. • Completion of vocational training curriculum for plumbers. Licensure/Certifications: • Preferred Licensure: Licensed as a Plumber through the State Department of Labor or eligible in 1 year. Professional Experience Requirements: • 1 year experience in Operations-Mechanic. Plumbing experience in a commercial setting. ADDITIONAL SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS • Also requires basic knowledge of HVAC, electrical, boiler and control systems, and in the use of manual and power tools. Ability to read and interpret code specifications, diagrams, sketches and operation manuals. Incumbent must demonstrate an ability to apply age-appropriate principles of communication during interaction with others. Incumbent must demonstrate competence per the position’s Skills Checklist before being allowed to perform independently.
