This position is located in the Durham VA Medical Center, Engineering Service, Durham, NC. The primary purpose of this position is to install, modify, maintain, and repair industrial or domestic high-temperature water and medium to high-pressure systems and equipment. Pipefitters work from blueprints, plans, sketches, and other specifications to plan layouts and fabricate piping systems in relation to walls, passageways, obstructions, locations of machinery, and other considerations.

Pipe Fitter / Welder

Edwards, Inc. is a full-service industrial general contractor providing constriction, fabrication, and crane services. We are currently seeking a Pipe Welder/Fitter to work out of our Spring Hope, NC office. The Pipe Welder/Fitter will be responsible for: • Fabricating and installing piping spools/ components of various types and sizes. • Reading and understanding drawings. • Perform all other additional assignments per supervisor or project manager's direction. Pipefitter Foreman

Job Summary: The Pipefitter Foreman is responsible for overseeing field installation activities of hydronic and steam systems on industrial and commercial construction projects. This role emphasizes labor productivity, quality control, safety compliance, and effective crew leadership. The foreman coordinates closely with field supervisors and project managers, supervises a team of 2–6 pipefitters, and performs hands-on tasks including cutting, threading, welding, and pressure testing of various piping systems. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in interpreting job-specific drawings, managing jobsite operations, and ensuring adherence to company procedures and project specifications. A minimum of 8 years of pipefitting experience, certified welding credentials, and competency with digital tools such as iPads and construction software are required. Responsibilities: • Lead work crews in the pipefitting trade. Manages 2-6 employees. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work. • Follows all rules and procedures required by SPC; ensures pipefitting staff follow procedures and policies. • Communicate with contractors on various projects to ensure they achieve quality work in a timely manner. • Communicates with SPC staff and provides feedback to staff regarding the status of the project. • Instructs pipefitting staff in the techniques and procedures employed in the hydronic pipefitting trade. • Pre-plans, assigns, and reviews the work of the pipefitting staff engaged in the installation, modification, and/or repair of hydronic systems and steam/condensate systems. • Inspects work upon completion to determine that staff followed the necessary procedures and that work conforms to job documents and SPC job-specific drawings. • Acts as a working crew supervisor in cutting, threading, soldering, brazing, pressing, grooving, mechanical joint systems, fusion systems similar to Aquatherm, assembling and installing pipe, connecting valves, and pressure testing finished work. Piping materials will include carbon steel, copper, ductile iron, and PVC. Should be proficient at assembling butt weld and socket-weld carbon steel systems, including tack welding of the same. Skills regarding cleaning and flushing of hydronic systems are a plus. • Repairs and replaces water, steam, air, and gas, and performs similar work expected in the pipefitting trade. • Monitors work of crew members for adherence to plans, specifications, and SPC job-specific drawings. • Certified Welder • Competent with the use of an iPad Qualifications: • Minimum of 8 years’ industrial/commercial pipefitting experience. Ability to read and interpret documents. • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. • Ability to solve practical problems. • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schematic form. • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as the fundamentals of plane and solid geometry. • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
