Position Type: Maintenance/Custodial/Plumber Date Posted: 6/25/2025 Location: Maintenance Department Plumber I Wayne County Public Schools Job Specifications Title: Plumber I Qualifications: High school or General Education Development (GED) diploma and experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air, water, gas or waste disposal systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Requirements: Must be able to bend, push, pull, lift at least 50lbs. Must have current valid drivers license with a clean driving record, must be able to operate power tools. Reports to: Plumbing Crew Leader Job Goal: An employee in this class is responsible for the maintenance, repair and installation of water and waste disposal systems, Assignments are generally routine and detailed instructions are given with assignments. Problems are referred to the supervisor. Errors are quickly revealed and performance may be checked upon completion of assignments. The employee receives direct supervision. Illustrative examples of work: • Measures, cuts, threads, assembles and installs pipes and tubing under supervision. • Checks plumbing systems to detect leaks. • Unstops commodes, drains, sewer lines and cleans grease traps. • Installs water and sanitary fixtures under supervision. • Makes repairs to water and waste disposal systems. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Basic knowledge of the techniques, methods and tools of the plumbing trade. • Some skill in the performance of the duties related to the plumbing trade. • Ability to use power tools associated with the plumbing trade. • Ability to follow oral and written instructions. • Physical strength sufficient to work at heavy manual labor for considerable periods of time. Terms of Employment: 12-month work year/At Will Employee/FLSA Non-Exempt Starting Salary and/ of Grade: $34,885.80-50197.80/ Grade 61/ Plus Longevity Evaluation: Performace of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board and local policy on evaluation of personnel.
