Construction Line Technician

This role requires the ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future. JOB SUMMARY Under minimal supervision, build, repair, and maintain HFC (hybrid fiber coax) plant and FTTH (Fiber to the Home) plant. Coordinate work with other technicians to construct outside plant Aerial/UG network infrastructure. MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience • Perform complex installations of cable in underground and/or overhead environments using the most recent company specifications and industry standards. • Establish work zones for placement of network construction infrastructure. • Follow pole owner construction requirements and communicate those requirements to work crews. • Prepare underground system plant for repairs; includes trenching, pot holing, backfill, and repair or replacement of conduits, poles, risers or pedestals. • Perform investigation and repair of cut fiber optic cables or impairments • Dig trenches and fill ditches; bury cable; place cable in trenches and through conduit. • Install equipment used to house HFC & FTTH equipment, ground plant, or place rod or wire to serve as ground for future installations. • Work with other crews, Construction Technicians, In-house Technicians, as well as third-party contractors in the performance of their duties. • Perform traffic control and/or flagging as necessary or advise traffic control vendors of the same • Load and unload cable equipment and tools and ensure materials are adequately stocked on crew trucks • Read system fiber prints and place cable according to prints • Mentor crew in creating a productive and safe working environment. • Calculate signal losses from all cable lines and devices, using signal level meter. • Adhere to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable. • Know, understand, and follow company policies and follow crew safety procedures. • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Required Skills/Abilities and Knowledge • Ability to read, write and speak English. • Ability to use the following hand tools electric drills, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers • Ability to walk over all types of terrain in all kinds of weather while carrying tools and equipment, including gaffs, ladders, and fully loaded tool belts • Ability to safely use weight-bearing equipment (such as gaffs, safety harness and ladders) within the maximum weight limitations of that equipment • Ability to use personal computer and software applications • Ability to accurately measure distances, using tapes or other measuring devices • Ability to carry, climb and operate extension ladder, (approx. 32 ft high and 90 pounds) • Ability to climb poles using gaffs, hooks and climbing belt as needed • Ability to differentiate between different sizes, types and colors of wires • Ability to make cable connections in tight spaces by bending, reaching, twisting • Ability to operate appropriate computer or test equipment associated with position (e.g. signal level meters, ohm meters, etc.) • Ability to perform job from high places (i.e. poles and roofs) • Ability to work while standing 50 - 70% of the time • Ability to work with small components and wires to make cable connections • Ability to use handheld communication devices and applications • Ability to adhere to Local, Federal regulations and Company policies • Ability to dig in all types of soil • Ability to drive Company vehicle in a safe and responsible manner • Ability to operate machinery and trailers used for underground/overhead cable installation • Ability to prioritize and organize crew effectively • Ability to read complex system layouts from blueprints • Ability to work independently and on a crew • Knowledge of traditional HFC & fiber architectures, Plant maintenance and restoration techniques • Knowledge of Fusion splicers and related equipment • Knowledge of basic mathematics, electronics and OSP design calculations • Knowledge of company products and services • Knowledge of National Electric Code and National Electrical Safety Code and OSHA Required Education • High School Diploma or equivalent work experience • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record within company required standards • Industry and vendor specific certifications and training (NCTI, SCTE, BCT/E) preferred Required Related Work Experience and Number of Years • 2+ years of Outside Plant Construction or relevant work experience Preferred Skills/Abilities and Knowledge • Aerial Utility/Electrical/Telecom knowledge or experience • Commercial Driver License - Class A Preferred Education • OSHA 10 Electrical Training NESC Communications 1910.268 Preferred Related Work Experience and Number of Years • 2+ years of Aerial Utility/Electrical/Telecom #zrfo2 #LI-JS2 EFR106 2025-62935 2025 Here, our employees don’t just have jobs, they're building careers.
