JOB DESCRIPTION This is general level technical work supporting higher level inspectors and engineers in functional areas such as construction inspection and surveying; scheduling and status; roadway design; traffic signal equipment; traffic signalization; and geometrics; materials sampling; inspection and testing. Work usually involves a significant amount of decision making and use of judgment and may include providing work directions to others. Employees will perform independent complex inspections of roadways and structure construction processes and materials to ensure compliance with the construction contract. Employees will perform moderately complex inspections or supervise other inspectors conducting routine and standardized inspections. Employees may perform construction management duties in lieu of Project Engineer on smaller construction projects, resurfacing, striping projects, sign, safety or other projects in similar scope/complexity. RESPONSIBILITIES • Conduct daily inspections of construction activities to ensure compliance with GDOT plans, specifications, and safety standards. • Monitor contractor performance and construction progress, reporting any issues to the project manager. • Ensure erosion and sediment control measures are properly installed and maintained in accordance with environmental regulations. • Verify quantities of materials used and work performed for accurate project documentation and payment processing. • Maintain detailed field records, including daily work reports/diaries, photos, and inspection logs. • Assist with punch list creation and final project closeout. • Acting as client, contractor, and project manager liaison for the construction of municipal and GDOT infrastructure projects. • Communicates directly with clients and owners, holds and attends meetings, review shop drawings, perform quantity take offs, generate preliminary estimates of cost. • Conducts material sampling and testing as needed for compliance • Familiarity with GDOT specifications, GDOT Standards and Details, project plans, and work practice is preferred. • Conducts material sampling and testing as needed for compliance Physical presence is an essential function of this job.
