General Laborer - Civil Construction

We are looking for a motivated General Laborer to join our team in performing essential civil work tasks, including erosion control measures such as installing SWIP (Stormwater Pollution Prevention) measures, straw wattles, basin straw matting, Curlex blankets, and slope stabilization. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the crew with ground preparation, material handling, and the installation of these environmental protection systems. Key Responsibilities: • Assist in the installation of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) measures, including straw wattles, silt fencing, and other erosion control tools. • Set up and secure straw matting and basin straw to prevent soil erosion on job sites. • Lay down Curlex erosion control blankets and other slope stabilization materials in accordance with project specifications. • Ensure proper placement and securing of erosion control devices following construction blueprints or instructions. • Prepare ground and surfaces for the installation of erosion control and slope stabilization materials. • Load and unload materials and supplies necessary for civil and environmental protection work. • Work closely with the crew to ensure job site safety and compliance with local regulations and environmental standards. • Perform general labor tasks including digging, spreading materials, and site clean-up. • Operate and maintain hand tools, light machinery, and equipment as needed. Requirements: • Experience in general labor, civil work, or environmental protection is preferred. • Familiarity with erosion control methods and materials (straw wattles, basin straw matting, Curlex, slope stabilization products) is a plus. • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials and working in various weather conditions. • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team. • Reliable transportation to job sites and flexibility with work hours. • Attention to detail and safety awareness on the job site. Preferred Qualifications: • Experience working on construction or civil engineering projects. • Knowledge of SWPPP regulations and erosion control practices. • Ability to read and interpret project plans and layouts. • Experience operating light machinery or construction tools. Responsibilities • Field Activities: Conduct observation, testing, and sampling of materials, including soils, aggregates, and concrete on construction materials testing project sites; Execute tasks based on project requirements under the guidance of senior technicians, staff professionals, and project managers. • Testing Procedures: Conduct routine field and/or laboratory tests for soils, aggregates, and concrete using various methodologies and testing equipment following industry standards and compliance. • Data Collection: Perform calculations and data reduction based on sampling, test results, and inspection; May assist with calculations, drafting, and other administrative duties as requested. • Communication: Maintain daily communication with site contractors, fellow technicians, and project managers; Communicate changing site conditions and additional requested testing to supervisor; Attend project meetings as requested; Assist with organization of field equipment and notify supervisor of broken or missing equipment as needed. • Training and Development: Receive training in ECS methodology for project observations, inspections, and testing; Document findings with precision in accordance with accepted engineering practices.
