CNC Machinist - Entry Level and Experienced

$2,000 Sign-On Bonus! Job Title: CNC Machinist Hourly or Salary: Hourly Position Type/ Hours: Full-Time / 4 10-Hour days SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE Sets up and operate CNC mill, grinder or lathe to perform machining operations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Reads process sheets, blueprints, and sketches of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set up, and operating requirements. 2. Mounts workpiece between centers, in chuck, or to faceplate. 3. Selects and installs preset tooling in tool posts, turrets or indexing heads, and automatic tool change magazine, in sequence specified on process sheet. 4. Depresses buttons, toggles, and starts machining operation. 5. Observes control panel and compares with data on process sheet to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates, and speeds of machining cuts. 6. Inspects first run piece and spot checks succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications. 7. Studies job packets and organizes materials for next run during automatic controlled cycles to shorten changeover time. 8. Sets tools before positioning them in mill or lathe. 9. Follow weekly schedule to turn jobs to meet shipping deadlines. 10. Maintain machine maintenance and cleanliness, fill out proper checklists. 11. Verify that proper tooling required to do daily tasks is on-hand. POSITION REQUIREMENTS 1. Safety and Security – Observes safety and security procedures, reports potentially unsafe conditions, and uses equipment and materials properly. 5. Dependability – Follows instructions, responds to management direction, completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan. 6. Education and Experience - Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 7. Language Skills – Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintaining instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondences. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. 8. Mathematical Skills – Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry. 9. CNC Machinist and Programmer (in office - Traverse City, MI)

CNC Programmer and Machinist (in office – Traverse City) We are growing our team at Thompson Retractor and are looking for an organized and driven CNC Programmer and Machinist to come on board. This role is responsible for interpreting project blueprints, designing programs, and setting up machines to produce the component per part blueprint specifications. CNC Programmers are also charged with performing machine maintenance and cleaning. We’re an energetic company and are looking for a passionate individual to join our organization. What You’ll Do: • Read technical drawings and set up the machines in accordance with proper work holding and machining practices • Use computer software to model cutting paths and program machines accordingly • Perform quality assurance tests to ensure products meet design specifications • Adjust machine cutting paths or settings to optimize production while maintaining quality • Consider tools required to cut materials and program machines accordingly • Troubleshoot and resolve problems with machines as they arise • Support all leadership tasks • Provide recommendations regarding needs or wants of new equipment • Help with training and coaching of Machinist staff • Ensure production performance and quality standards are met • Assist for motivating and developing machining skills in employees • Responsible for making sure parts are made to print • Responsible for maintenance and preventative maintenance records • Develop or assist with developing work order, work instructions and routers​ development • Ensure a safe, clean and efficient work environment • Monitor/track Department Lean activities​ • Monitor/track department KOI’s​ This Might Describe You: • Diploma or certification in CNC programming/machining or related field • Proven experience as a CNC Programmer in the manufacturing industry • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software, G-code preferred • In-depth understanding of metal properties and machinery • Experience running short run production and single part prototypes • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. • Strong background knowledge in machine and production processes • Working Knowledge of shop tools and equipment EEO/AA Job Type: Full-time Pay: From $25.00 per hour Schedule: • 8 hour shift • Monday to Friday Work Location: In person
