CNC Lathe Machinist

General Function : Set up and operate numerically controlled machines to perform a series of machining operations, such as turning, live tool milling, drilling, boring, threading and facing on parts according to work instructions and procedures to assure Belvac’s quality of work is upheld. Primary Responsibilities : • Safety is our first priority. Machinist must be able to operate machinery safely and follow all established Safety Policies and Procedures. • Knowledge of turning process. • Understand and implement general machine set-up principles. • Reads drawing, job order, setup sheet, and tooling instructions to setup and process precision machined parts • Observes numerical displays on control panel and compares with data on process sheet to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates and speeds of machining cuts. • Identify and communicate process improvements to Manufacturing Engineering or CNC Programming staff. • Lift workpieces manually or with hoist to position in work-holding device • Load program from network location • Ability to read G-code program for the purposes of proof-reading program before execution • Identify, load, measure, and set proper cutting tools in machine • Establishes work origin reference point in machine control • Recognize and compensate for tool wear • Understand and correct for unexpected taper and other inaccuracies. • Understanding and correction of machine alarms • Ability to perform first-piece and in process inspection using appropriate measuring instruments such as caliper, micrometer, bore gage, and indicator • Perform preventative maintenance on machines and related equipment. • Operate multiple machines simultaneously. • Deburr and part mark as needed • Must keep assigned machine(s) and work area cleaned and neat. • It is every employee’s responsibility to be aware of and work with Belvac's current documented Quality Management System as it pertains to their job requirements. • It is every employee’s responsibility to improve processes to reduce set-up and run-time standards when possible. Physical Requirements : • Requires long periods of standing (up to 10 hours/day) • Must be able to operate overhead cranes • Although all production areas have overhead cranes, on occasion Manufacturing, Stockroom and Assembly employees may choose to lift items by hand for convenience. Required Job Requirements: • High School Diploma or GED. • Must also meet one (1) of the following training/experience requirements: • * Must have successfully completed a Machining Diploma or an equivalent program from a recognized trade school or community college (minimum 2-year accredited program) by July 1, 2026. • Must have successfully graduated from the Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) Machining program and a preference for 2 years of Machining experience. • A State Certified Machinist Journeyman’s Card is required. Applicant must provide a copy of the machinist journeyman’s card. • Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing machining or tool making (or equivalent combination of education and experience). • Military Service equivalent in pay grade E-6 or above. One or more of the following Navy Enlisted Classifications (NEC) or other service branch specific equivalent: • * Machinery Repairman or service equivalent • U32A Computer Numerically Controlled Machinist • U33A NAMTS Inside Machinist • Successful candidates must meet the required WorkKeys assessment standards. • Must be highly motivated, with a focus on attention to detail. • Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship. • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.
