Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Set up and operate the ProtoTRAK or Haas CNC mill or lathe machine to perform machining operations, including milling, drilling, and tapping, on various materials such as metals, plastics, or composites. • Interpret and understand engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine machining requirements, dimensions, and tolerances. • Write, modify, and optimize CNC programs using G-code or other programming languages to control the ProtoTRAK or Haas and achieve desired part geometry. • Select appropriate tooling, cutting speeds, and feeds for each machining operation to ensure optimal performance and maximize tool life. • Perform routine maintenance tasks on the ProtoTRAK or Haas, including cleaning, lubrication, and inspection, to ensure proper functioning and minimize downtime. • Conduct in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges, to verify part dimensions and quality. • Troubleshoot and resolve machining issues, such as tool wear, chip evacuation, or program errors, to maintain production efficiency and quality standards. • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize machining processes, improve cycle times, and enhance part quality. • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and best practices in machine operation, tool handling, and workplace cleanliness. • Document production data, including tooling setups, machine parameters, and inspection results, in appropriate logs or electronic systems. • Stay updated with advancements in CNC machining technology, programming techniques, and tooling innovations. Supervisory Responsibilities: • None Qualifications: • Strong understanding of machining principles, cutting tools, and machining parameters. • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications. • Experience with precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques. • Knowledge of tooling selection, setup, and optimization for CNC milling operations. • Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve machining issues. • Strong attention to detail and quality orientation. • Familiarity with safety protocols and best practices in machine operations. • Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical education or certification in CNC machining or a related field is preferred. Experience: Minimum of two years of hands-on experience operating a ProtoTRAK or Haas CNC mill or lathe. Language Skills: Ability to follow verbal and or written instructions from supervisor. Math Skills: Machinists are required to have intermediate math skills, as precise measurements and calculations are an integral part of the position.
