Manual Machinist 2 and 3 Shift

Description Position Title: Manual Machinist Job Code: HRJD - 003 Department: Machining Services FLSA Status: Hourly / Non-exempt Supervisor: Shop Supervisor GENERAL SUMARY: Primary duties include, but are not limited to; safely operating various machining tools such as lathes, mills, presses, grinders, saws, drills, boring tools, welders, broaches and metal spray units to repair existing or create replacement parts for mechanical assemblies or to fabricate new parts from drawings and/or specifications. Use measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers and bearing bore gauges along with proper techniques to determine correct sizing. Record all data necessary to produce expected service and/or design results. May require work both in shop and at various customer locations with overtime as needed. JOB FUNCTIONS: • Accurately operate various machining equipment that may include but not be limited to: Vertical and horizontal lathes. Milling machines. Drill presses. Surface grinders / sanders. Hydraulic presses. Metal spray torches. Broaching machines. Welders including MIG, TIG, ARC/Stick, Oxy Acety. Chop Saws / Band saws Dynamic Balancing Equipment. Reads blue prints and/or draft drawings & specifications Accurately uses measuring devices such as outside micrometers, calipers, inside micrometers, bore gauges, feeler gauges, rules, etc. to read and record sizes of equipment and component parts. Calibrates devices per approved standards, if self calibration is required. Accurately calculate tolerances and fits based upon measurements made. Documents all calculations & measurements on applicable forms. • Perform assigned machining tasks that may include but are not be limited to: Turning shaft or bulk stock. Milling key ways. Turning and cutting threads. Boring cylinders Metal Spray of bearing fit areas. Welding cast iron, various grades of steel, aluminum, copper, brass. Using hydraulic press to remove items from housings, etc. Drilling, grinding, sanding, etc. Dynamic balancing of rotational equipment • Operate appropriate equipment safely and competently to perform job, • Other duties as assigned and/or required to support the company's goals and objectives QUALIFICATIONS: • High School Diploma or the Equivalent. A Certificate or Associates Degree in an electrical / mechanical related field preferred; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. • Ability to understand and carry out detailed written or oral instructions. • Ability to problem solve in non-standardized situations. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team • Ability to relate and interact with associates at all levels • Ability to become knowledgeable of all facets of the company, including technical aspects • Must demonstrate basic verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills • Must be able to maintain a high sense of urgency to meet project deadlines • Must be able to perform essential functions of job, with or without reasonable accommodations. Ability to adjust focus - adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.
