PURPOSE: We are seeking a high-level CNC machinist with at least 6+ years of manual and/or CNC machining experience. This is a growth level position. Potential applicants must have good mechanical and machining skills and the desire to grow into a highly skilled machinist. This position can grow into the future of the company. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Set up and operate CNC milling machines and lathes (machining centers), with a preference for experience using HAAS controls. • Operate and maintain manual lathes and mills as needed for prototype or low-volume production work. • Program CNC machines using CAD/CAM systems with at least 2 years of experience, demonstrating a strong desire to continually improve and optimize processes. • Interpret and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards to ensure parts meet precise engineering specifications. • Apply knowledge of cutting speeds, feeds, and material properties to select appropriate tooling and machining parameters. • Perform basic inspection and measurement of machined parts; experience with CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines) is considered a strong asset. • Collaborate effectively with engineering, scientific, assembly, and machine shop teams to support product development and manufacturing goals. Job Description US CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED BAE Systems Space and Mission Systems located in Boulder, CO currently has a Prototype Machinist V opportunity available in our manufacturing facility. We machine prototype spaceflight hardware and ground support equipment daily. The machinist position will be required to work independently from complex drawings, sketches, CAD models, and/or verbal instructions to facilitate the manufacture of parts and assemblies by programming, setting up, and operating DMG mills. You’ll be working with engineering for design and manufacturing producibility, furthering a real team environment of continued success. The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution – from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the-art manufacturing and test operations and top-notch facilities management. What You’ll Do: • Collaboration with our lathes and wire EDM teams utilized as support. • Manufacture complex parts made from a variety of materials with exacting tolerances. • Provide detailed documentation as required per our AS9100 quality management system. • Multi-axis programming with your Mastercam skillset. • Program, setup and operate DMG CMX-50U mill. • Mastercam advanced programming experience sought for optimal machine utilization. • Review and interpret electronic build documents for machining requirements including thorough knowledge of GD&T engineering. Solid models (CAD) provided for all builds. • Design and fabricate basic to complex holding fixtures for standard and irregular configurations. • Use basic inspection equipment to check parts per ANSI Y14.5. We are an AS9100 accredited manufacturing facility. • Maintain required electronic build records and process logs, records, and reports in accordance with company policies/procedures and government regulations. • May be utilized for working peer support relating to the machining and fabrication of complex hardware. • May assist in manufacturing process planning and estimating. • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule. • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment. • Perform other duties as necessary. On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required. Pay Information Full-Time Salary Range: $74508 - $119213 Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. Responsibilities Must be a subject matter expert in the following functions/activities (perform correctly and without assistance): • Interpret complicated blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications. • Determine the sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup. • Select, mount, and align various specialized machine attachments and standard or improvised tooling. • Make necessary and correct machine adjustments to improper machine functioning or cutting action. • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work pieces as guides. • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth/angle of cut. • Accurately monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical processes or other control procedures. • Use a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments. • Understand materials and applications as required. • Solve problems relative to the work-holding arrangement, unusual materials, machine setting, tools, product specifications, and fabrication methods for the production process. • Align and fasten work using standard fixtures and established methods. • Install and adjust cutting tools consistent with the type and size of material being machined. • Adjust feeds, speeds, and depth of cut to machine quality parts, per documentation. • Inspect parts for conformance to specifications using measuring instruments such as gages, calipers, micrometers, and comparators. • Visually inspect parts for burrs or damage machined surfaces. • Maintain equipment to ensure cleanliness, accuracy, and reliability specific to requirements. • Implement lean initiatives by identifying and providing suggestions on areas for improvement. • Effectively apply lean concepts and tools in the work area. • Observe all company policies and procedures, including safety rules, and maintain a clean and orderly work area.
