Job Title: 1st Class Outside Machinist Location: Lockport, LA Position Overview: A 1st Class Outside Machinist is responsible for installing vessel machinery using blueprints and hand tools, with knowledge of some aspects of air controls and tubing bending. Key Responsibilities: • Ability to read and interpret standard construction drawings, specifications, and other technical publications. • Good working knowledge of system start-up procedures, propulsion system alignment, and machinery plants. • Familiarity with commercial and military specifications and standards. • Knowledge of how to use necessary tools and equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, heavy jacks, chain falls, torch, etc.) • Some experience or background in welding. • Install vessel machinery through the use of blueprints and hand tools. • Read and interpret standard construction drawings, specifications, and other technical publications. • Apply knowledge of system start-up procedures, propulsion system alignment, and machinery plants. • Familiarize with all aspects of craft-specific marine construction from design through installation and operational testing. • Utilize necessary tools and equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, heavy jacks, chain falls, torch, etc.) • Perform tasks related to air controls and tubing bending. • Conduct operational testing of installed systems. Experience: • Minimum of eight (8) years of marine experience or four (4) years of continuous Company experience preferred. Skills and Abilities: • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings. • Strong understanding of marine construction techniques and best practices. • Ability to use precision tools and equipment effectively. • Knowledge of system start-up procedures and machinery plant operations. • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail. • Ability to work independently or as part of a team. • Effective communication skills to collaborate with other team members and departments.
