Machine Operator

Position Summary We are seeking a reliable and skilled Machine Operator I to join our production team. This role is responsible for operating, leading, and maintaining packaging machines such as baggers, fillers, indexers, cappers, case packers/makers, and sealers. The ideal candidate will ensure machines run efficiently, meet quality and production KPIs, and support a safe and clean work environment with minimal supervision. Key Responsibilities • Set up machines including loading materials, adjusting dies and films, and configuring settings. • Conduct mechanical changeovers and monitor machine performance. • Troubleshoot issues, report concerns to leadership, and assist with repairs to reduce downtime. • Perform preventative maintenance on assigned machines. • Follow work orders, quality controls, and sanitation procedures related to weights, packs, descriptions, dates, UPCs, cleanup, and changeovers. • Conduct quality control and material waste checks. • Direct and instruct line personnel in specific job duties and train other Machine Operator I team members. • Perform pre-operational checks and complete required documentation for pre- and post-production. • Maintain and exceed production, quality, and safety standards. • Load product into hoppers and perform tasks such as stacking, packing, and other duties as needed. • Clean machines after production runs or changeovers. • Maintain a clean, audit-ready, organized, and safe work area, including sweeping, mopping, and equipment cleaning. • Follow food safety and quality standards including GMP, HACCP, FSMA, SQF, allergen/sanitation controls, and food defense/fraud protocols. • Document and maintain preventative controls to ensure food safety and quality. • Immediately report any food safety or quality concerns to management. • Support a safety culture by practicing safe behaviors, reporting hazards, and conducting safety observations. • Collaborate with team members and participate in ongoing technical and professional development. Qualifications Education & Experience: • Prior manufacturing experience preferred. • Prior industrial truck experience preferred. • Prior machine operator experience preferred. Skills & Competencies: • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. • Basic problem recognition and resolution skills. • Effective communication and leadership on the production floor. • Mechanical, electrical, and analytical abilities; experience using standard tools for troubleshooting. • Basic computer literacy (e.g., QAD and scanners). • Ability to manage multiple priorities. • Strong communication skills. • Ability to speak, read, and write English. • Basic math skills. • Good manual dexterity, vision, and mobility. • Ability to frequently lift/move up to 50 lbs and occasionally up to 60 lbs.
