CNC Trainee 3rd Shift (6:30pm - 5:00am, M-Thur)

The Impact You'll Make THIS POSITION IS AN ENTRY-LEVEL, semi-skilled role that works under the direction of experienced co-workers to learn the trade of CNC machining. Upon completion of the training program, the candidate could be promoted into a CNC Machinist position. In this role, the CNC Trainee Tech will produce machine parts by programming/editing, setting up, and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines, while maintaining quality and safety standards, keeping records, maintaining equipment and work area. This is an onsite position at our facility in Tallahassee, FL. What You’ll Be Doing Essential Functions, Key Tasks, & Responsibilities • Follows written instructions in the form of Standard Operating Procedures. Also follows verbal instructions from experienced co-workers, team leaders, and supervisors. • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T). • Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock. • Programs/edits mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs. • Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads. • Loads feed the mechanism by lifting stock into position. • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, adhering to international standards. • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes. • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations. • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs. • Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs. • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs. • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications. • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. • Demonstrates cross functionality and strong willingness to learn any assigned task What We're Looking For Education And/or Experience • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) • Experience using precision measuring equipment such as, but not limited to, micrometers and calipers. Preferred Qualifications • Certificate in technology-based or vocational programs of study; and 1-2 years of related technical experience • or; 3-5 years of equivalent experience in precision metalworking, machining, automotive, or other technical vocations.
