Additional Requirements (Internal/External Candidates) SUMMARY: Sets up and operates a variety of general or specialized metal working machines to repair engine parts or auxiliary units, such as transmissions, differentials, springs, or brakes, applying knowledge of machines, shop mathematics, metal properties, and machine procedures. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Operates lathe to machine water-pump castings, piston heads, valves, and other bus parts. 2. Verifies dimensions of various parts using measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges to ensure adherence to tolerance specifications. 3. Uses portable or bench grinders for grinding metal surfaces of engine block or other parts. 4. Clamps piston in carriage of piston-grinding-and-turning machine to grind piston heads to fit cylinders. 5. Machines used parts for rebuilding of transmissions and other major bus parts as needed. 6. Machines new parts and tools unattainable from manufacturers. 7. Performs other duties as assigned. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Commercial Driver's License Permit required.
