Job Summary Services, maintains, and repairs machinery or mechanical equipment associated with laboratory and office facility heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration systems, plumbing, and related electric or pneumatic control systems. This position is onsite and located at our Corporate Headquarters located at: 505 King Ave., Columbus, OH. Responsibilities • Reviews and updates all equipment records for history of preventive/predictive maintenance and service activities to ensure adequate maintenance schedule is in place; logs all mechanical functions. • Ensures that the operation of systems and components remains in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations as well as client-driven requirements for specific kinds of equipment. • Monitors equipment to ensure operation is within specified parameters, especially to meet the requirements of conducting project work for clients; makes adjustments and repairs as necessary; conducts necessary tests and inspects system equipment and components to detect actual and potential mechanical problems that would affect project work, and takes corrective action. • Performs repairs using hand tools associated with heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems maintenance work; replaces broken or defective parts; orders production of replacement parts or machine shop services; reassembles machines and makes adjustments. Work may be performed indoors or outdoors. • Reports on status of assigned equipment maintenance and repair activities to supervisor; advises on mechanical system capacity and efficiency; makes purchases of mechanical equipment related to facility heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems; instructs and advises equipment users on capacity and proper operation of equipment. • Responds and assists in performing emergency repairs on the facility's heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration systems, and related electric or pneumatic control systems. May be required to work overtime and outside of normal working hours (including holidays and weekends). • Performs self-development activities sufficient to maintain craft specialty skills and certifications required to perform assigned tasks. • Performs special assignments, as directed, requiring skills related to facility heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. Key Qualifications • Requires a high school education, trade or vocational school certification, and approved apprenticeship or equivalent with 2 to 5 years’ experience as a heating, ventilating, and air conditioning mechanic • Must have demonstrated knowledge of heating, ventilating, air condition, or refrigeration systems and related pneumatic and electrical control systems as applicable to work specialty • Must also have a knowledge of tools, materials, procedures, and hazards of the trade, and ability to perform delicate repairs and adjustments • Requires the physical ability to perform medium difficulty work, including lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling work materials and tools; ability to climb ladders, maintain balance, stoop, kneel and crouch to gain access to equipment components; ability to read meters and use tool accessories; acuity of vision for close work; depth of perception, field of vision, and color vision • May be required to obtain certain government clearances; inoculations against certain diseases; asbestos awareness training and certification; universal refrigeration certification; licenses to operate a forklift, overhead crane, aerial lifts and power tools; and radiation worker's training • Must have good oral and written communication skills, and ability to follow through and carry out assignments • May require using a communication device such as a pager, cellular phone, or two-way radio during and after normal business hours including weekends and responding to emergency situations such as power outages, equipment failures, and natural disasters.
