Carpenter I Job Title Carpenter I Department Physical Plant Posting Number req579 Description of Job Duties Job Summary: Carpenter I's primary duties are assisting in constructing, installing, and repairing structures and fixtures. Acts as a resource for the physical plant department and builds effective, strong working relationships to enhance department operations and functions. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: • Assist building and repairing using typical carpentry machines and tools • Studies specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and assists determining dimensions and materials • Assist in organizing the supplies and equipment needed • Assist in the coordination of outside contractors as requested • Assist plumbers, electricians, and other members of the Physical Plant on projects • Provide support services to the department in a manner that professionally, cordially, and efficiently assists students, faculty, staff, and visitors • Specific assignments are based on unit need and assigned by the supervisor which could include such things as assembling, fastening, building, repairing as well as other duties as appropriate Competencies: • Ability to multi-task, organize, manage time effectively, and keep tasks appropriately prioritized • Ability to work independently • Ability to work with, assist, lead, and take directions from others in the interest of operating the Physical Plant to its optimal efficiency Work Setting: • Expectation of on-campus presence with attendance and punctuality • Promote personal safety, safety procedures, and a safe work environment • Reports to the Carpenter Supervisor in coordination with the Physical Plant Director • Employment at will • Full-time status • 12-month appointment • Non-exempt About SWOSU: With locations in Weatherford, Yukon, Sayre, and online degree programs, SWOSU is one of the leading regional universities in the country.
