Carpenter Journeyman in Brownsville, Texas

About the position Responsibilities • Read and understand blueprints, drawings, and sketches. • Select proper size and type of building materials according to project specifications. • Plan installations to avoid obstructions. • Prepare layouts using rules, framing squares, and chalk lines. • Mark cutting and assembly lines on materials using pencil, chalk, and marking gauge. • Shape materials to prescribed measurements using skill saws, table saws, band saws, etc. • Assemble cut and shaped materials by fastening them together with nails or screws. • Verify the trueness of structures using a plumb bob and carpenter's level. • Erect shoring and install plywood decking. • Construct forms and chutes for pouring concrete. • Unload materials, tools, equipment, and supplies. • Assist in lifting, positioning, and securing materials and work pieces during installation. • Clean tools and equipment and maintain a clean and safe work environment. • Safely traverse uneven terrain with tools and building materials. • Climb vertical ladders and work above/below ground as necessary. • Safely operate power tools and equipment. Requirements • Typically requires 48 months of industrial construction experience. • Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical drawings. • Experience working at heights and knowledge of fall protection equipment. • Functional knowledge of safe dexterous use of hand tools. Nice-to-haves • NCCER Certification preferred but not mandatory.
