Senior Project Manager - Wind

Pattern Energy is seeking a Senior Project Manager - Wind in Lansing, MI, to oversee construction and provide technical support for renewable energy projects. Responsibilities include due diligence on construction documents, supporting early development projects, negotiating contracts, and ensuring compliance with agreements. The role is integral to the SunZia Wind project, the largest renewable energy infrastructure project in US history, with a focus on wind and solar energy. The SunZia Wind project represents over 3,500 MW of new renewable generation located in Torrance, Lincoln, and San Miguel Counties, New Mexico and will represent the largest wind project in the Western Hemisphere. SunZia Transmission is a 550-mile ± 525 kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line between central New Mexico and south-central Arizona, with the capacity to transport 3,000 MW of clean, renewable energy. Together, total investment of more than $8 billion and enough energy to power the needs of more than 3 million Americans. Both projects are privately funded and will deliver over $1 billion in estimated direct economic benefits to governments, communities, schools, and private landowners across Arizona and New Mexico. Responsibilities Job Purpose Provide technical support of development activities and project management overview of the construction of wind and solar farms across the United States, with support to other markets as necessary. Provide due diligence review of all project construction-related documents, contracts, and fieldwork. Key Accountabilities The key responsibilities will include as a minimum the following in support of renewable projects: • Provide technical due diligence of wind, solar and transmission projects during the development and construction phase. • Review construction documents for completeness and compliance with utility interconnect agreements, power purchase agreements, land lease agreements, environmental permits, and good industry practice. • Ability to support early development projects with constructability reviews, indicative pricing and early engineering. • Work with Pattern’s preconstruction and development groups in the development, solicitation and award of construction services for various projects. • Negotiate and administer any construction contracts entered into by Pattern with EPC contractors, construction management entities, equipment suppliers and any others. • Provide overview of interface with major equipment suppliers. • Ensure division of responsibility is coordinated between various stakeholders, EPC contractor and turbine supplier. • Ensures schedule and delivery provisions of major equipment agreements are compatible with project needs and EPC contract documents. • Execute the construction of the projects; be accountable for the safety, quality, cost and schedule of the project. • Serve as the lead negotiator for scope and schedule specifics of the project. • Provide overview of project interface with interconnect utility. • Ensure documents and drawings required by interconnect and power purchase agreements are provided in a timely manner. • Review monthly progress report to utilities. • Participate in the management of third-party technical engineering support of project work, particularly relating to the design and performance of major equipment. • Direct management of any 3rd party engineering that Pattern contracts direct and work collaboratively with Pattern’s engineering team. • Manage Independent Engineer’s and/or Owners Engineer’s review of active construction projects. • Ensure timely approval of design documents and resolves technical issues relating to project design. • Review and comment on Independent Engineer’s due diligence reports for active construction projects as well as development opportunities. • Provide project interface with Pattern management and construction lenders. • Furnish monthly reports and status updates as required. • Support any financing due diligence process. Experience/Qualifications/Education Qualifications Educational Experience • Eight or more years progressive responsible experience in the power industry with significant wind energy experience. Transmission, solar is a plus. • Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering or construction management with a strong focus on electrical is desired. • Demonstrated ability to complete multi-million dollar construction projects on schedule and within budget. Field experience desirable. Additional Requirements • Excellent oral and written communication skills. • Ability to prioritize and resolve multiple issues on multiple projects under demanding schedule constraints. • Through understanding of construction contact concepts, language and terms. • Knowledge of basic engineering concepts. Familiarity with transmission and distribution equipment, overhead and underground cable installation, reactive power compensation equipment, and SCADA systems helpful. • Ability to manage a team and work collaboratively with various stakeholders Technical Skills • Facility with typical computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint). • Scheduling application experience a plus (MS Project, Primavera). • Budget management Travel • Approximately 50-75% annually. • North America (U.S., Canada) The expected starting pay range for this role is $139,000 - $160,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels. In addition to your Base Salary, you may be eligible to receive an annual discretionary bonus as determined by Pattern Energy. This potential discretionary bonus may range from zero to 25% of your base salary for the previous year, and the decision to award a bonus, as well as the amount, are subject to the sole discretion of Pattern Energy’s Chief Executive Officer. In rare circumstances, it is also possible that you may be awarded a bonus above 25% of your base salary for the previous year.
