Wind Solar Collection Systems Engineer – Mid Level (Hybrid/Remote)

Job Description: Summary: The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise. Work will include preparing designs for DC and AC collection systems and power plant controllers. Projects will focus on design and analysis and will consist of preparing plans and specifications, writing reports, and developing cost estimations. The work will be related to renewable energy facilities. The person in this position will also be responsible for managing projects, coaching and mentoring less-experienced staff, providing technical leadership, and managing teams to meet clients' needs. The work may at times involve short-term out-of-town assignments. Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering • At least 5 years of related experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to the job responsibilities described above • Knowledge of and experience with DC and AC solar collection system design • Experience with power plant controllers • Working knowledge of codes, standards, laws, and regulations applicable to the project assignments described above • Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with team members in a high-energy working environment that encourages self-initiative • A flexible working style and a willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within one year • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future Preferred Qualifications: • 10+ years of related experience • Experience with collection system studies including ampacity, short circuit, reactive power, grounding, insulation coordination, harmonic, and transient overvoltage • Experience with energy storage facilities • Authoritative capabilities and experience applying industry-standard resource modeling and assessment techniques (PVsyst, Windographer, etc.) • Experience with statistical analysis of solar and wind data, resource and net energy production forecasts (including uncertainty/variability analysis and loss assumptions), design, site conditions, and technology suitability • Experience with data collection, post-construction measurement campaigns (including power performance testing), and project contracts • Demonstrated project organization and management skills • Client-relationship and business-development skills • Experience with AutoCAD A hybrid or remote work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office; a remote arrangement refers to working primarily from a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's or Minneapolis, Duluth, or Hibbing, Minnesota; Denver, Fort Collins, or Wheat Ridge, Colorado; or Ann Arbor or Grand Rapids, Michigan, offices. Remote arrangements will be considered based on candidate qualifications, location requirements, and Barr’s needs. Compensation: The anticipated base salary range for this position is $89,000–$118,000/year. This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance.
