The Welder II is responsible for joining metal components using various welding techniques to create strong, durable, and precise bonds. The Welder II is expected to perform more complex welding tasks, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts in production processes. Job Details • Position Type: Full-Time/Non-Exempt (Hourly) • Pay Range: $20.95 - $22.32 per hour • Work Location: Sterling, Illinois • Shift: 3 pm-11:30 pm Key Responsibilities • Lead the installation, setup, and calibration of complex machines and equipment, ensuring precise alignment with operational specifications for production. • Collaborate closely with engineering and production teams to optimize machine performance for specialized production runs and implement necessary adjustments. • Perform advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics on critical equipment issues, resolve complex malfunctions, and adjust settings to ensure maximum efficiency. • Conduct in-depth tests and inspections to identify and resolve potential issues before they impact production, ensuring minimal disruption. • Implement corrective actions and lead preventive maintenance efforts to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and extend machinery lifespan. • Analyze and interpret blueprints, engineering specifications, and shop orders to determine machine setup, production methods, and sequencing, ensuring optimal production workflows. • Collaborate with engineering and cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement in machine setups and operational efficiency. • Oversee the operation and maintenance of powered industrial equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks) to support machine setup, material transport, and seamless production processes. • Adhere to 5S standards (e.g., maintain cleanliness of work area, etc.). • Follow all Safety, Environmental and Quality policies and procedures. • Perform all other duties as assigned. Key Activities & Responsibilities • Ability to perform grinding and be able to pass a required welding skills test. • Necessary to be able to do all Grinder tasks. • Must be able to safely perform gang-welding techniques (dos and don’ts). • Must be able to safely weld vertical, flat, and overhead with both MiG and stick. • Must inspect metal prior to welding for smoothness and acceptability and clean welds to presentable state (grinding operations). • Must work with Fitters on proper assembly of equipment. • Keep work area clean and neat. • Clock in on assigned jobs as appropriate. • Ensure welding machine settings are appropriate for work to be performed. • Must be able to safely use cranes and forklifts. • Must be trained in and know PPE requirements for welding including hood and filter shades and arm/body protection. • Must be able to read and understand weld symbols. • Must maintain welding machines by keeping them clean and changing liners in the welding guns. • Follows company policies and procedures at all times. • Follows proper safety rules and procedures at all times. • Performs other duties as assigned. To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are: • High School Diploma or GED required. • 0-1 Year of Welding experience required. • Heavy equipment manufacturing experience preferred • Computer experience desired, particularly the ability to use a mouse and locate and open/close programs/files. • Knowledge and ability to perform all Grinder tasks required. • Ability to properly and safely MiG weld, stick weld, and arc gouging required. • Ability to read and understand weld symbols required.
