Job Title: Welder Job Description This role is a MIG welding role. You will be responsible for setting up all material for the weld, following a blueprint or work instructions to complete the weld, and welding everything together. You will be welding on material up to 1/2 inch thick, including flat, vertical, and horizontal positions. Responsibilities include performing multi-pass welds (up to 3 times) primarily on steel material and executing a lot of tack welds. Initial tasks will include tack welding until fully trained in all processes. As you demonstrate more skill, you will handle more complex welds. Nestled halfway between South Bend and Chicago, along the shores of Lake Michigan - our facility in La Porte, Indiana supplies jet engine components to some of the most trusted names in the Aerospace industry. As a Weld Engineer at our growing La Porte facility, this position will be responsible for improvements and control of weld repair/fabrication of super alloy castings as well as ensuring all welds meet Class "A" requirements. Job responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Maintain Nadcap certification. • Train new production welders. • Monitor workmanship and continuous training of current welders. • Certify new welders and recertify current welders biannually. • Plan and execute repairs on potentially scrap castings. • Monitor weld quality yields. • Develop new welding techniques and equipment improvements for production applications. • Maintain weld wire and weld cap control and inventory. • Maintain and write work instructions. • Customer specification and blueprint review. • Maintain welder stamp control. • Maintain personal welder certification. • Methods improvement. • Cost estimating, scrap and rework costs. Skills and Experience: • Good PC skills, written & verbal communication skills, problem solving, project management, and organizational skills. • Must work well in a team environment and commit to continuous improvement. • Investment casting experience or similar manufacturing facilities qualifying new programs. • Significant experience in investment castings (engineering and/or manufacturing) strongly preferred. • Ability to think through complex development projects and identify gaps in plans, risks, and opportunities with the boldness to elevate when necessary. • Must be self-driven with outstanding organization skills, self discipline and an acute sense of urgency. • Proficient in all MS Office applications. • Excellent written & oral communications skills, able to work in a self-directed or team environment & have good organizational skills. • Technical support to the shop floor. • Technical liaison with customers and other plants. • Strong analytical abilities. • Perform all other job duties as assigned.
