Posting Details Position Information Posting Number 2020273-3 Job Title Welding Student Lab Support Pay Rate $12.48 per hour Job Category Student Department ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY Position Summary Information Job Description Summary The student employee for welding lab support will work closely with the lead welding instructor and the welding lab assistant to maintain the upkeep of the welding lab, the equipment, and the materials utilized. These tasks are to be facilitated safely and with the safety of all lab participants in mind. Required Qualifications • Currently enrolled in six course credits at SMC Preferred Qualifications • Applicants who are enrolled in, or have an interest in, related occupations (welding, robotics, construction, auto, engineering…) Other Information Essential Duties And Responsibilities • Operate power equipment including, welders, sheers, band saws, drills, grinders, and other power tools • Sweep, mop, and use vacuum cleaners to clean floors or ventilation • Wash fixtures • Cut material for WELD classes • Help keep inventory of parts and consumables • Maintain a safe environment • The duties listed in this job description are not all-inclusive, but a list of the major responsibilities. Special Instructions to Applicants You must be enrolled at the College on a full-time or part-time basis (minimum of 6 credit hours during fall and spring semesters and 3 credit hours during the summer semester); contact hours will not be used to meet the 6 credit hour minimum. High-school students who are dual enrolled are eligible for student employment. You must also meet the credit hour requirement. OR You must be enrolled or continuing your education with a four-year College partner, on the campus of SMC, and be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours and at least 1 SMC credit hour during the fall and spring semesters and 3 credit hours and at least 1 SMC credit hour during the summer semester. All student employees must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 to be eligible for student employment. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. • Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound. • Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. • The physical requirements of this position. Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. • The visual acuity requirements including color, depth perception, and field vision. The employee is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment. • The conditions the employee will be subject to in this position. • The employee is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. • The employee is subject to extreme heat. Temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour. • The employee is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the employee to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level. • The employee is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. • The employee is subject to atmospheric conditions.
