Harvest Welder

Job Description • The harvest welder will safely, accurately, and efficiently, maintain, and repair sugar cane harvesting and related equipment in a fast paced, team based, and constantly changing work environment. Welder will be responsible for performing accurate welding repairs, fabrication from layout, blueprints, and oral instructions, of all equipment and structures, and must be able to follow procedures and planned work schedules while responding to emergencies as directed by supervision. The scope of the job duties encompasses all facets of welding repair and fabrication in an efficient and cost effective manner with a minimum amount of supervision. Job Requirements: Qualifications • Ability and motivation to perform job functions safely, correctly, and efficiently, which include: • Heavy lifting, climbing, squatting, working from heights and standing for extended periods • Operate forklift, bucket truck, boom truck, carry deck, and other mobile equipment • Operate various lifting devices including proper rigging procedures • Visually identify leaking/loose/worn/broken/dirty components on cane harvesting and industrial equipment including but not limited to cane elevators, cane harvesters, tractors, air compressors, and other support equipment • Accurately read, understand, and interpret (paper, electronic, etc) layout prints, blueprints, etc • Full understanding and operating knowledge of SMAW(stick), GMAW(MIG), and GTAW(TIG) welding equipment, oxyacetylene welding and cutting equipment, and air carbon arc cutting equipment • Able and motivated to listen, learn, gain experience and judgment, and follow accepted repair industry standards, in order to plan and accomplish a variety of tasks with minimal supervision • Must actively and effectively assist team members as required • Must have commitment and dedication to reducing equipment downtime and failures • Must have clear communication skills and a strong desire to learn • Must know and understand the principles and fundamentals of all aspects of welding including basic metallurgy • Must have strong analytical skills in determining why a component or structure failed and be able to accurately repair/correct the underlying cause to prevent repeat failures • Must be proficient in all aspects of SMAW(stick), GMAW(MIG), and GTAW(TIG) welding, oxyacetylene welding and cutting, and air carbon arc cutting • Must be able to repair, fabricate, hardface, and assemble complete structures or components of equipment, utilizing layouts and/or blueprints following industry accepted standards • Must be able to accurately use metal forming, cutting, grinding, and shaping tools such as presses, punches, brakes, pipe benders, threaders, optical tracing tables, grinders, and drills, in order to bend, shape, and cut parts to be welded, bolted, screwed, or riveted together • Must be able to remove and re-install nuts, bolts, screws, rivets, covers, guards, steps, handrails, etc., to gain access to repair site • Must have at least 5 years of industrial fabrication and welding experience. A technical school welding certificate (with at least a 1,000 hours of instruction) may be substituted in lieu of 2 years of work experience • Furnish and utilize the necessary tools and equipment in performance of the required job functions. Tools listed on the Harvest Journeyman Welder Minimum Tool list are required to begin job • Basic working ability utilizing desktop/laptop/thin client computers in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc. and other computer programs • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities including the use of a computerized maintenance management system including ordering parts per the work management process • Perform mathematical calculations pertaining to the job • Accurately use and read tape measures, micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, and other related measuring instruments, read and understand mobile equipment instrumentation • Disciplinary action and work history • Ability to work with others and or alone with minimum supervision • Ability to read, speak and write English • Ability to follow instructions and communicate information pertaining to the job • Ability to follow proper safety and housekeeping procedures pertaining to the area • Ability to work anywhere within the company and in variable/extreme weather conditions • Must successfully complete any required orientation, training, and continuing education courses • This position will be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime • Must be capable of obtaining a forklift certification within 30 days of job award • Capable of obtaining mobile crane certification • Must have a valid Florida driver’s license Class E or above • Must have successfully completed the TOST and/or Ramsey Test • Must have successfully completed the 6G welding test Working Conditions: • While performing the duties of this job, the employee works and drives in outside weather conditions on a regular basis • Working conditions may be rainy, hot, cold, humid, dusty, foggy etc. depending on the weather. • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud • Duties of this job are occasionally performed in an office environment • Employee may be required to drive a vehicle for extended time periods Physical Requirements: • While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, crawl, climb, work at moderate heights, use hands to handle and/or move various objects, tools and/or controls, reach with hands and arms, use balance, talk, hear, and see. Position Summary: Working independently and with minimal supervision, safely and efficiently ensure the proper functioning of mechanical operations and production equipment by providing for the planned and preventative maintenance through fabrication and/or installation. Essential Duties: • Successfully participate in and complete all training sessions, safety classes, pre-shift meetings, and/or certifications related to the position. • Operate forklift, manlift, overhead crane, and other heavy equipment as needed, using both feet and hands to manipulate applicable foot and hand controls simultaneously. • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities including the use of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). • Perform routine safety checks on equipment prior to start, and maintain all records pertinent to the job. • Read blueprints and layout work, use oxygen/acetylene torch and other mechanic tools, consult operating and maintenance manuals, use and read various precision measuring instruments such as tape measures, dial indicators, calipers, and micrometers. • Utilize arc, oxygen/acetylene, MIG, TIG and plasma methods to safely perform welding and cutting functions in the fabrication and/or repair of all types of metal, steel structures, pressurized vessels and pressurized piping. • Inspect, maintenance, lubricate, repair, troubleshoot, breakdown, clean up, and/or install equipment, including motors, drives, bearings, electronic magnets, valves, pumps, conveyor systems, hydraulics, turbines, gear boxes, fans, and align couplings, sprockets, sheaves, and other equipment. • Operate inside enclosed/confined spaces, or from raised platforms or heights utilizing lifting devices or proper rigging procedures, in accordance with OSHA requirements. • Demonstrate proper housekeeping, and maintain all related safety equipment and tools of the trade. • Perform, or assist in, maintenance and repairs as needed throughout the Factory. • Using a computerized work order system, plan, schedule, and conduct regular preventative maintenance inspections of all equipment and work areas to identify hazards, clean equipment, and repair and maintain operational condition of facilities and equipment. • Maintain all related safety equipment and tools of the trade and practice exceptional housekeeping. • Operate a computer-controlled Water Jet Metal Fabrication Machine to fabricate mill roll scrapers, and other items as requested. • Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish a variety of complicated tasks with minimal supervision. Must have knowledge of liquid process and transfer equipment, including, but not limited to, the maintenance, inspection, and troubleshooting of pumps, motors, conveyors, hydraulic systems, centrifugals, gear boxes, pipe fittings and valves, agitators, and auxiliary equipment. • Ability to pass pulmonary function test. • Capable of working with overhead crane and various lifting devices including proper rigging procedures. • Operate inside enclosed/confined spaces, or from raised platforms or heights utilizing lifting devices or proper rigging procedures, in accordance with OSHA requirements. • Ability to operate automated equipment using touch screen controls. • Ability to learn and implement Current Good Manufacturing Practices: CGMP. • Use a radio to verbally communicate with Power Plant staff, take and receive directions from Team Leader, CCR Operator, and/or Roving Operator Assistant. • Inspect, maintenance, lubricate, repair, breakdown, clean up, and/or install boiler and boiler components, scrubbers, furnaces, motors, drives, bearings, electronic magnets, boilers, valves, pumps, conveyor systems, hydraulics, turbines, gear boxes, fans, feed water pumps, and align couplings, sprockets, sheaves, and other equipment. Job Requirements: Qualifications: • Must have positive results from Company-designated tests designed to measure basic skills, job skills, mechanical aptitude and/or other interests, skills and characteristics. • Must be 18 years of age or older and have a good work record and disciplinary history. • Applicant must be able to read, write and speak the English language in order to comprehend instructions on the job, over the radio, and in the classroom, and to ensure personal and co-worker safety on the work site. • Must pass the written mechanics test and 6G welding test prior to hire or job award. • 3 years experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial equipment such as boilers, turbines, pumps, gearboxes, conveyors and auxiliary equipment, including the thorough use of welding principles and methods, or completion of an applicable certification program. • Successfully complete a job sample prior to hire. • Operational proficiency in computers and software to conduct accurate data entry. • New hires must pass a drug test and other pre-employment background screening, and successfully complete any required training or orientation course. • Demonstrate the physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job. Job Description The Farm mechanic/welder will safely, accurately, and efficiently, maintain, service, and repair sugar cane production and related equipment in a fast paced, team based, and constantly changing work environment. Multi-Craft will be responsible for performing accurate diagnosis, overhaul, and repair of all equipment, performing time based repairs and inspections, performing welding repairs and fabrication, and must be able to follow procedures and planned work schedules while responding to emergencies as directed by supervision.
