Position Summary Welders at Oceaneering's Marine Services Division (MSD) in Chesapeake, VA perform various welding processes to repair, modify and install various pipes, structures, foundations and fittings associated with shipboard hydraulic, pneumatic and water systems. Welders must be able to select proper materials and requirements to perform welding functions. This role requires strict adherence to safety and quality standards, good housekeeping skills, and a high level of critical thinking and reading comprehension. This role may require overtime and the ability to travel domestically and overseas up to 25% of the year. Duties And Responsibilities • Requires no supervision and excels in all qualifications and welding processes. • Is an expert in all tasks required as a Welder and will provide mentoring to junior craftsman. • Must be able to understand and perform the set-up, adjustment, and operation of all welding equipment and hand tools used in the trade. • Select welding filler material, joint design and proper heat ranges as directed by Technical Work Documents. • Read and understand terminology, blueprints, drawings and schematics to plan installation, modification or repair prior to commencing the process. • Fabricate and install fixtures, jigs, supports and targets to ensure proper alignment during welding processes. • Produce quality welds, including pipe, in difficult or adverse conditions and is proficient in multiple welding procedures/procedures. Qualifications REQUIRED: • High school diploma/GED. • Minimum eight (8) years welding experience in an industrial environment, preferably in shipbuilding. • Minimum four (4) years volumetric/radiographic/ultrasonic welding experience. • Ability to pass knowledge and practical skills tests. • Must qualify as a Welder/Workmanship Inspector in accordance with OII Process Instructions and welding procedures. • Ability to obtain Deep Submergence Systems & SUBSAFE qualifications. • Must be a U.S. citizen who is not a dual citizen of any other country. • May be required to obtain a Secret security clearance. DESIRED: • Experience with hull penetration, mechanized, and/or automatic welding. • Apprenticeship Diploma or additional vocational courses/technical school and/or military or civilian experience with welding operations in a repair department or shipyard or fabrication shop. Position Title: Welder II, III Work Location: Chesapeake, VA FLSA Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt REQ#25_09026E Summary of duties – The Welder applies appropriate welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, or repair parts of metal or other weldable materials for production. Lays out and marks position pieces on parts or sub-assemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates. Fits by hand or position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps using measuring instruments and / or hand tools. May perform fitting, welding, and silver brazing on shipboard piping systems on all types of metals. Must possess knowledge and experience in the set up and operation of machines and tools to include: mig welder, tig welder, plasma arc cutter, gas cutter, carbon arc cutter, bandsaw, drill press etc. to cut and weld parts to specifications. Uses hand tools such as grinders, needle guns, clamps, fixtures, calipers, scribes, combination squares etc. Basic knowledge of weld theory to include the following processes: SMAW, GMAW, GTAW and / or Silver Brazing. Some basic knowledge of ferrous / non- ferrous metals and the ability to read / interpret blueprints required. May be assigned the duties and responsibilities of other positions for which qualifications are met. Periodically required to lift/move equipment up to and including 50 pounds. Specific description of duties: • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications • Fits and assembles parts into complete assemblies • Verifies dimensions and alignment of assemblies • Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices • Welds foundations, brackets, studs, platforms, piping, and other items to support on-site installations • Maintains cleanliness of the work area • May provide training / oversight of junior personnel • May require the ability to perform supervisory duties • Overtime is routinely required but not guaranteed • Travel outside the local area may be required • Perform any other assignments or tasks as needed or requested by management to assist in accomplishing the organization’s mission, objectives and goals.
