Sheet Metal Worker

Farmer & Irwin was founded in 1956 and has become one of south Florida's leading HVAC system, plumbing, and service contractors. Our industry-leading team offers full in-house fabrication, welding, and construction of custom HVAC systems. We also house a sheet metal shop with advanced machinery and tools, as well as a service department committed to providing long-term care and results for all your HVAC needs. We are seeking a Sheet Metal Mechanic. This position is responsible for all aspects of Commercial HVAC sheet metal installation and associated materials according to specification and codes. Duties and Responsibilities: • Determine sequence of installations by reading plans and working drawings. • Perform field take-offs and jobsite material inventories. • Engage in the assembly and installation of sheet metal duct work for air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating units used in schools, commercial and industrial buildings. • Working on elevated ground and maintaining balance when standing on restricted levels such as beams are also required skills. • Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements: • 4 years vocational preparation acquired in school, work, military, institutional, or vocational environment. • Knowledge of SMACNA requirements and local stated codes. • Ability to read and understand blueprints. • Basic competence in sheet metal mathematics. • Possess valid driver's license. • Climb and maintain balance on ladders, lifts, and scaffolds; and stand, stoop, kneel, or crouch. • Team oriented with the ability to work well and communicate with others. • Good verbal communication skills. • Neat, professional appearance. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position is a largely a physically active role. Sheet Metal Mechanics will regularly push and pull loads, climb, crouch, and maneuver around obstacles. Work Environment This job operates in a field and shop environment. Must be able to withstand wide temperature variations as a portion of the work is outside. Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time. Assist other trades in fabricating complex major assemblies involving sheet metal operations or techniques. High degree of attention to detail and ability to provide quality work. Set up and operate fabricating machines, such as shears, brakes, bending rolls, and punch and drill presses to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal. Safely utilize hand tools including, grinders, drills, hammers, punches etc. In depth knowledge and skill in a wide variety of measurement tools. Ability to create a drawing or sketch from an oral description of an object or objective. Capable to Read and Visualize three-dimensional objects from drawings, sketches, or blueprints. Understand basic math and be able to visualize 3d design. Ability to work in adverse conditions; confined spaces; working at heights from ladders and/or man lifts; working with an aging infrastructure. Preferred candidates will have 5+ years' experience in sheet metal fabrication and a familiarity with facility maintenance This is an Onsite position on 1st shift. Qualification You Must Have High School Diploma or GED. 2 + years trades training. Ability to operate sheet metal working machines and use a variety of precision measuring instruments such as Rotary Tables, Micrometers, Vernier Calipers and Trammel points.
