Second Shift Spot Welder

Shift: Standard week is Monday-Thursday, 4:30 pm to 2:00 am Fridays are often used to catch up on work, and may be mandatory to work. Position Summary: Responsible for spot welding operations within design specifications and the efficient flow of material through the welding process Essential Functions • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, grind, or bolt component parts to obtain the required configurations and positions for welding • Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter using hand scrapers, or power chippers portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using resistance welding • Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straight edges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications • Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter • Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material • Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux, according to the welding chart specification or types and thickness of metal • Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify the supervisor • Layout, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly using straight edges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers • Clean and degrease parts using wire brushes • Weld separately or in combination, using aluminum and/or stainless steel • Mark or tag materials with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required • Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations • Hammer out bulges and bends in metal work pieces • Develop templates and models for welding projects using mathematical calculations based on blueprint information • Input and maintain data in the ERP computer system/Global • Maintain weld equipment and supplies • Complete all production paperwork, which includes but is not limited to the shop routing worksheet, the WIP tickets, and the production labor ticket (time ticket) to an acceptable level of accuracy and as error-free as needed to support the needs of the manufacturing planning and control system • Comply with all company attendance expectations, and expect to work overtime if the need requires it • Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned by your supervisor or team leader when required, which may not be covered in detail within this job description • Assist in other areas as needed Requirements • HS education with a minimum of 3-5 years of production welding experience • Experience in spot welding with proven ability to recognize a degrading spot weld, as well as testing welds and redressing tips • Possess a solid understanding of welding equipment and welding accessories • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, welding process specifications, and welding symbols • Must be able to operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes • Required to have the visual ability or to develop the visual ability to inspect parts being run in productions, and be able to exercise reasonable judgment of good versus bad parts from an appearance standpoint • Must have the ability to weld in all positions with good penetration and quality • Must be able to read a tape measure, pressure gauge, level, and square • ISO and GMP awareness • Ability and willingness to follow directions, as well as the ability to work independently • Excellent verbal communication skills • Basic computer skills Environmental Conditions • Humidity level may be elevated during the summer months • Exposure to certain containments, at times • Exposure to loud noise, at times • Physical Demands: • The position requires continual use of your hands, considerable use of your arms and legs, and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials • Climbing on ladders, working on scaffolds to assemble structures, or working in confined spaces may be required at times • The use of safety equipment such as safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, gloves, helmets, and hearing protection is utilized daily • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 80 lbs with assistance • Must be able to routinely lift and maneuver 20-30 lbs without physical restrictions • Must be physically able to load coils, in the case of an automatic machine, and or bar stock in the case of a single cycle machine, which will require heavy manual manipulation of raw material • Able to stand on your feet for at least ten hours a day • This is a 40-hour per week job with the potential for overtime
