Building Technician V (Plumbing)

Duties: Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing master/journeyman level skilled work installing, maintaining and repairing plumbing heating systems. Installs gas lines in buildings, services heating and cooling systems and installs and maintains lavatories, commodes and water heaters. Install new plumbing including pipes, valves, drains basins, tubs, faucets, lavatories, sinks, drinking fountains, hot water heaters and a wide variety of other plumbing fixtures, facilities and equipment. Repair old plumbing including fixtures and pipelines, renew washers and valves, clean and open traps, drains and other lines. Solder and repair copper pipes. Complete daily work order reports and other related paperwork. Prepare estimates on time and materials required for a job. Conduct preventative maintenance on sump pumps. Assist annual inspections and testing. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Work the assigned schedule and comply with City timekeeping and attendance policy. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED. Two (2) years' experience in the plumbing trade. Possess a current Texas Master/Journeyman Plumbers License. Valid Texas Driver's License. PREFFERED: Back Flow Certification. Will be asked to obtain a fork lift certification provided by the City of Pasadena. First Aid Certification is a plus. The City of Pasadena offers very generous benefits to all full-time employees. Inspector V (Plumbing)

Duties: Inspect residential, commercial and industrial plumbing systems and installations for conformance to minimum adopted governmental codes, sanitation standards, and construction specifications. Inspect water supply systems, drainage and sewer systems, water heater installations and air and gas piping systems for approved materials, specified pipe sizes and connections, required grade and fitting, approved back flow prevention devices, required bracing, ventilation, and air and water tightness. Interview plumbers working in the jurisdiction to determine possession of valid occupational licenses. Review complaints concerning alleged violations of plumbing code, gather evidence, and appear in court as witness. Keep records of inspections performed, action taken, and corrections recommended and secured. Review plumbing blueprints for conformity to established codes and makes corrections. Occupational License Programs as may be assigned by the Permit Department / Building Official. Review plumbing permit applications and verify payment of fees. Additional code enforcement assignments. Qualifications: Possess a current Texas State of Plumbing Examiners - Plumbing Inspector's License, or obtain within one (1) year. A combination of an Associate's degree in related discipline with three years' experience or a minimum of 8 years' experience as an Inspector with other municipalities in the performing code enforcement in the plumbing trade or equivalent combination of education and experience. Job Title: Plumber Master -Level 4 Duty Days: 240 Pay Grade: N07 Salary Schedule: Click for Salary Schedule Primary Purpose: Responsible for the inspection, repair and installation of plumbing equipment for PISD Qualifications: Education/Certification: • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent preferred • Have a valid Texas Driver's License and meet and maintain insurance requirements of PISD • Must possess and maintain Texas State Journeyman Plumbing License • Must pass drug test and be part of a random drug testing program • Must pass criminal history check Special Knowledge/Skills: • Knowledge and developed skill in all phases of plumbing installation and repair • Ability to read blueprints and interpret diagrams • Skilled in the maintenance and use of tools, equipment and materials of the trade • Minimum of five years plumbing experience preferred • Must be willing to acquire backflow testing license Major Responsibilities and Duties: • Performs repairs of plumbing equipment • Installs, test and repairs gas piping and connections • Performs troubleshooting procedures and repair on gas operated equipment • Removes blockages from sanitary sewer lines • Repairs and/or replaces lift pumps, booster pumps and submersibles • Must be able to perform necessary paper work to process work orders • Must have a working knowledge of computer systems in regards to email, work order and time entry systems • Participates in the preparation of cost estimates, material orders and records maintenance • Operates excavating equipment, backhoe, trackhoe, skid-steer, etc • Test and repair backflow devices • Must have a working knowledge of computer systems in regards to email, work order and time entry systems • Must be willing to respond to occasional after hour emergencies • Performs other duties as directed Equipment Used: Pipe vises and portable stands, pipe cutters, burring reamers, pipe wrenches,flaring tools, various sealing compounds, pipe dies and taps, tube benders, impact tools, electrical power tools associated with the trade; sewer cleaning machines pro press tools, soldering torch, trash pumps Working Conditions: Physical Demands: Must be able to work from ladders and elevated platforms, lift heavy items and dig ditches.
