Essential Job Functions: Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor, the Plumber is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining pipes, fixtures and other plumbing used for water distribution wastewater disposal and gas piping in all City facilities. Maintains the flow and drainage of water, air, and other gases by assembling, installing and repair pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures. Maintains and provides the safe operation and condition of all plumbing systems. Install and repair pipes, fittings, valves, fixtures, and plumbing system equipment, including sinks, commodes, water heaters, and gas systems according to specifications and plumbing codes. Able to install supports and hangers for pipe fixtures and equipment. Receive and complete assigned work requests independently. Responds to work requests in a timely manner and able to access and diagnose the source of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs as needed. Install drain, waste, vent systems hot/cold domestic water systems and natural gas systems. Familiarity with PVC, CPVC, PEX, cast iron, and copper; maintain accurate records on material and labor hours; estimate jobs and materials as needed; work with other employees and immediate supervision to complete projects. Must be available to work 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; must work standby duty one week each month; subject to callback after business hours and on weekends while on standby duty; or in case of a plumbing emergency, works inside and outside in all kinds of weather; exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones. Knowledge: Knowledge of plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques Knowledge of local and state plumbing codes and requirements Knowledge of regulations and operational procedures pertaining to the repair, maintenance and construction of buildings, equipment, and machines. Skills/Abilities: Skilled in soldering and brazing of copper tubing, threading steel pipe and the use of a Pro-Press and fittings Skilled in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference materials Ability to develop and implement planned. Ability to operate tools and equipment according to safety procedures Ability to lead troubleshooting and repair water and gas distribution system components. Ability to interpret plumbing and mechanical system building plans including backflow prevention devices Ability to lead other technicians in complex plumbing repair work. Ability to perform mathematical calculations Ability to use hand and power tools. Ability to work independently and in a team environment Ability to use a personal computer, and Microsoft applications. Physical Requirements: Constantly hears and sees (must be able to distinguish colors), drives, climbs, kneels, squats, stands, stoops, twists body, walks, reach in all directions and lifts items weighing up to 75 lbs.; frequently uses a calculator, crawls, carries objects weighing up to 50 lbs., pulls and pushes objects weighing up to 100 lbs., and holds objects weighing up to 25 lbs.; infrequently writes by hand, and drags objects weighing up to 100 lbs.; cleans, sits, and sorts. Ability to maintain balance working off the ground using ladders, scaffolds, and/or mechanical lifts; ability to be on-call 24/7 including responding to emergency calls as needed. Education/Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent; minimum three (3) years of experience in commercial plumbing and five (5) years total experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified is required. Possession of a Texas Journeyman Plumbing license. Valid Backflow Certification or the ability to obtain the certification within twelve (12) months of employment. This position requires 100% onsite work. Must possess a valid Class C driver’s license with a good driving record. Other state valid Class C driver’s license with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver’s license.
