CRAVEN COUNTY SCHOOLS Plumber II Position Description Position: Plumber II Reports to: Director of Facility Support Services Terms of Employment: 12 months, full time FLSA Status: Non-exempt Nature of Work An employee in this class is responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair of water and waste disposal systems. The employee receives work assignments from the supervisor. New or unusual assignments are accompanied by more detailed instructions. Some errors may be revealed while work is in progress; however, others may not be detected until after work is completed. The employee works with limited supervision. Education and Experience • Working experience in the repair, replacement, or construction of piping systems Certification and Licensure Requirements (if applicable): Essential Functions/Typical Tasks • Measures, cuts, threads, assembles, and installs pipes and tubing. • Connects valves, caulks, joints, and tests finished job by allowing water to flow through. Installs water, sanitary fixtures and equipment with supports, hangers, or foundations. • Eliminates leaks by repacking valves or by replacing faulty fittings or sections in line. Replaces worn parts. • Makes corrections as needed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Working knowledge of the techniques, methods, and tools of the plumbing trade. Skill in the use of tools, materials, and equipment used in plumbing work. • Ability to understand and carry out oral or written instructions. Physical Requirements • Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises. • Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job. Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that • require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
