Overview The Plumber/Steampipe Fitter is responsible for inspecting and repairing pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures related to the heating, water, gas and drainage systems. This individual will also be responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of medical air and suction systems, medical gasses to include the distribution, piping, and terminal connections in addition to being responsible for maintenance and repair of heating and cooling hydronic systems. High School Grad or equivalent required. Four years of relevant experience OR 240 hours of vocational training required. Journeyman Plumber licensure must be obtained within 90 days (or less) from date of hire. Depending on location, facility may require MLB upon hire. Some sites require individuals to obtain Anti-Backflow certification within one year of employment MPLB preferred. The City of Norfolk’s Department of General Services is seeking a qualified Senior Plumber to perform and supervise the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems and fixtures within city buildings and respond to plumbing emergencies. The Senior Plumber will work directly with the Maintenance Supervisor to assist with the daily operations of the Plumbing Shop.Essential functions include but are not limited to: Installs, maintains, and repairs: • Water and drainage systems • Plumbing fixtures • Ice Machines • Faucets • Pool drains • Sump pumps • Back flows • Garbage disposals • Corroded or defective pipes • Drain line cleanout using machine to clear debris Performs special functions: • Tests Backflow prevention devices • Winterizes all outdoor facilities by draining unheated water lines and removing backflow preventers • Preps all outdoor facilities back to operational condition in warm months • Roughs in new fixtures and waterlines for repairs or renovation projects • Responds to plumbing emergencies and takes corrective action Assists Maintenance Supervisor with daily operations of Plumbing Shop: • Assigns work orders • Prioritizes work • Schedules personnel • Monitors outstanding work orders • Allocates resources following the City’s procurement process Required: • Four years of experience as a Journey Level Plumber. Preferred: • Four years of experience as a Master Plumber. • Experience in a supervisory or lead plumber role. Required: • Valid Driver's License. A DMV transcript dated within 30 days will be required if selected for hire. • Tradesman License. Preferred: • State Master Plumber's License. Work Schedule: • Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm • Occasional overtime • Rotation as needed • This position is designated as Essential and may be required to report to work during City closures due to inclement weather and other emergencies.
