As a commercial plumber you will be responsible to assemble, install and repair pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, water and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes. Commercial and Industrial jobs but on occasion may work on residential. Essential Job functions include (but not limited to): • study plans and drawing to determine work aids required and sequence of installation • inspect structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe • Cut and thread pipe using pipe cutters, cutting torch and pipe-threading machine • Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass and lead; and nonmentals such as glass, vitrified clay and plascit or PVC, using hand tools and power tools • Join pipes using screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints • Install and repair plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, faucets, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks and water softners • Mentor and assist with training of helpers on the job Qualifications include (but are not limited to): • Valid driver's license • High school diploma or GED. Journeyman 1-Plumber • High school diploma or GED required. • Completion of accredited plumbing apprenticeship program. • 2 years' plumbing experience working in a healthcare or commercial building environment. Journeyman 2-Plumber • High School diploma or equivalent is required. • Completion of 4-5 year apprenticeship, which includes blueprint reading, mechanical drawing, mathematics, electrical wiring and plumbing. • Minimum of three years of work experience • OR what is required by local governing authority. • Knowledge of State and Local plumbing codes and ordinances is required. • May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored. • No contact with medications is allowed.
