Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Brick Mason to join our masonry restoration crew. The ideal candidate will have experience in various masonry techniques and be able to work on a range of historic projects, from residential to commercial. This person will be responsible for building, restoring, and maintaining structures made of brick, concrete, and other materials while ensuring high-quality workmanship. Duties • Construct and repair walls, chimneys, and other structures using bricks, concrete blocks, or stone. • Restore existing masonry work by repairing or replacing damaged materials. • Perform concrete finishing tasks to ensure smooth surfaces and proper alignment. • Apply stucco to surfaces for aesthetic appeal and protection. • Execute metal stud framing for walls and ceilings as needed. • Apply plaster to surfaces for finishing touches on construction projects. • Read and interpret schematics to understand project specifications and requirements. • Assist in construction estimating by providing material and labor estimates for projects. Duties • Lay out wall patterns or foundations, using straight edge, rule, or string lines • Shape, trim, face and cut stone to set using power saws, cutting equipment, and hand tools • Set vertical and horizontal alignment of structures, using plumb bob, string Line and level • Mix mortar or grout and pour, or spread mortar or grout on stone or flooring • Remove wedges, fill joints between stones, finish joints between stones, using a trowel, and smooth the mortar to an attractive finish, using a tuck pointer and brush • Set stone, brick and block in place, according to layout or pattern • Clean excess mortar or grout from surface of stone, or monument, using sponge, brush, water, or acid • Lay block/brick to build shells of chimneys, walls and stairs • Replace broken or missing masonry units in walls or floors • Smooth, polish, and bevel surfaces, using hand tools and power tools • Drill holes in ornamental stone and anchor brackets in holes • Repair cracked or chipped areas of stone, using blowtorch and mastic and remove rough or defective spots from concrete, using power grinder or chisel and hammer • Remove sections of stone from truck bed and guide stone onto site • Construct and install prefabricated masonry units Skills • 3-5 years stone work experience • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the masonry construction or repair of houses, buildings, walls or hardscapes.
