Position Overview The Project Manager oversees all phases of assigned steel fabrication and erection projects—from contract award through closeout—ensuring successful execution in terms of safety, quality, schedule, and cost. This individual serves as the primary liaison between the client, the internal project team (detailing, fabrication, field), and external stakeholders to ensure that all technical, contractual, and financial objectives are met. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities • Oversee and manage all phases of structural steel projects, ensuring on-time and on-budget • Develop, manage, and update project schedules, budgets, and quality control plans. • Coordinate with detailing, engineering, fabrication, and erection teams to ensure accuracy and efficiency in deliverables. • Lead pre-construction planning and Design-Assist efforts, ensuring constructability, value engineering, and alignment with client goals. • Manage Lean Construction workflows, drive efficiency, and identify opportunities to minimize waste and rework. • Oversee procurement of materials, subcontractor buy-out, and delivery coordination with suppliers and vendors. • Review and interpret drawings, specifications, change orders, and shop/erection plans to identify and resolve discrepancies. • Serve as primary point of contact for clients and GCs—communicating project progress, milestones, and challenges. • Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, electricians, and other specialists to resolve design or site issues. • Generate and maintain detailed project documentation, including submittals, RFIs, change orders, and progress reports. • Conduct regular site visits to monitor work progress, enforce safety, and ensure adherence to project scope and quality standards. • Support LEED certification processes and documentation where applicable. • Mentor and support Project Engineers and junior staff, fostering a culture of accountability and teamwork. Qualifications, Education, and Experience • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Architecture, or a minimum of 10 years of construction management experience (structural steel preferred). • Strong leadership and delegation skills; capable of managing multiple teams and priorities across large, complex projects. • Demonstrated experience overseeing steel fabrication and erection for commercial, aviation, stadium, or high-rise projects. • Deep understanding of AISC, AWS, and other relevant structural steel codes and standards. • Proficient in project management and documentation software (e.g., Procore, Tekla EPM, Bluebeam, MS Office Suite). • Strong financial and contractual acumen—able to manage cost tracking, change orders, and risk mitigation. • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. • Willingness to travel to project sites across California occasionally, as needed. Preferred Qualifications • Experience with Lean Construction and Design-Assist delivery models. • Knowledge of LEED certification processes and sustainable building practices. • Background in steel detailing coordination, fabrication workflows, and erection sequencing. Qualifications, Education, and Experience • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field preferred (not required). • 1–3 years of experience in structural steel project engineering, coordination, or similar role. • Strong understanding of steel fabrication and erection processes, drawings, and terminology. • Ability to read and interpret plans, shop drawings, and specifications. • Familiarity with project management systems (Procore, Tekla EPM, Bluebeam, MS Office Suite). • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills. • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. • Willingness to travel occasionally to fabrication shops or job sites within California. Preferred Qualifications • Prior hands-on exposure to steel fabrication or erection environments. • Knowledge of AISC/AWS standards and quality control procedures. • Experience supporting Lean Construction or Design-Assist • Familiarity with BIM or 3D modeling software (Tekla, Revit) a plus.
