Carpenter/Mechanic

• JOB SUMMARY • Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, machines and equipment. Repairs and maintains the physical structure and grounds of the Medical Center. • DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties: • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts. Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections. Inspects used parts of devices and control instruments. Repairs or replaces defective parts. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricates and cleans parts. Repairs electrical equipment. Initiates purchase order for parts and machines. • Installs such items as window shades, blinds, curtain rods/track, televisions and door hardware. Installs glass in windows, doors and partitions. Replaces damaged ceiling tiles, grid, floor tile, and wall coverings. Builds, repairs, and installs countertops, cabinets, benches, partitions, shelving units, furniture, flooring, framing, doors and trim. Repairs partitions, hangs and finishes drywall, painting and wallcovering. • Completes PM's and reactive maintenance repairs requiring, but not limited to the following skills: heating, ventilation, and air conditioning; mechanical repairs — pumps, motors; plumbing; electrical; instrumentation. • Thoroughly and accurately completes reactive and preventative maintenance paperwork. Starts devices to test their performance. Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts. • Maintains clean grounds, walks, and driveways by completing, but not limited to, thefollowing: mow and trim lawns, shrubs, and trees; remove litter; clear snow; clear leaves and drainage; keep related equipment in proper function. • Provides office fixture installation (pictures, bulletin boards, etc.) Moves offices, equipment and/or supplies into or out of the Medical Center as directed. • EDUCATION/LICENSE/ CERTIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS • Minimum requirement: • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) • Current driver’s license • One-year certificate from college or technical school; or 1 year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Preferred qualifications: • Associate's Degree in Industrial Maintenance • WORKING ENVIRONMENT • Constantly works near moving mechanical parts. • Frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. • Frequently requires travel to and from off-site locations. • Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat. • Frequently exposed to a risk of electrical shock. • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. • Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibrations. • PHYSICAL DEMANDS • Frequently required to move about throughout the department and facility. • Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices. • Occasionally required to operate a computer and other equipment. • Constantly required to stand. • Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crawl, or crouch. • Frequently required to lift and/or move 50 pounds. • Occasionally required to lift and/or move 100 pounds.

Requirements • High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate) preferred. , • Minimum of 2 years' experience in carpentry required, including hanging and taping. , • Previous experience in hospital construction preferred. , • 2-5 years' experience installing building specialties, cabinets, windows, countertops, and commercial doors, frames, and hardware. , • NCCER Training/Certification preferred. , • Ability to read construction documents and execute tasks based on those documents.
