J&J Truck Bodies & Trailers is looking for experienced welders who set up and operate equipment to weld together fabricated metal components of products such as truck bodies, trailers, specialty vehicles, and related subassemblies; and custom fabrications made of carbon steel and aluminum using the GMAW and FCAW process. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Safely perform duties, always wearing the required PPE • Observes and complies with all provisions of the ISO 9001 QMS • Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified by training, or by foreman. • Starts the power supply to produce an electric current. • Cleans or degreases weld joints or workpieces. • Prepares objects for welding by grinding surfaces. • Positions and clamps work pieces together or assemble them in a jig or fixture. Fit up simple assemblies • Preheat the workpiece if/when required. • Strikes (forms) arc to melt and deposit metal from electrode to workpiece and join edges of the workpiece. • Manually guides gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead. • Examines weld for bead size and other specifications. • Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter. • Set up and adjust welder, and perform routine maintenance such as replacing spools of wire & changing out liners. • Safely operate all lifting devices such as overhead & jib cranes and fork trucks when authorized & adequately trained. Education and Experience: • Vocational/technical training needed or a high school diploma or general education degree with work experience in an industrial setting.
