Welder/Fabricator

The Welder position entails the lay out and fabrication of metal assemblies. Must be familiar with structural welding, forming and various other fabrication processes. The welder will be using technical drawings and various other specs along with verbal instructions for planning and accomplishing assigned jobs. Will be assigned other jobs by the Shop Superintendent. Duties/Responsibilities: 1. Handle Materials – cutting and joining metal parts for fabrication or repairing various job. 2. Designing and fabricating the equipment and parts for meeting the special or unusual needs, using the manufacturer specifications, calculator, measuring devices, drawings, etc. 3. Installing or removing any equipment such as paint machines, grinders, power and hand tools. 4. Must be familiar with the following tools: mig-welder, plasma cutter, arc welder, chop saw, oxyacetylene torch. 5. Basic math skills and use of tape measures, calculators will be required. Minimum Job Requirements: • Steel toed boots • Suitable attire for the shop environment for the summer and winter months. • Basic hand tools – • Heavy lifting • Availability to work normal shift and overtime. • Must be punctual and possess a strong work ethic. Education & Skills: • High School/GED required. • Welding Certification • Basic reading, writing and math skills. • Basic knowledge of welding symbols and blueprint reading skills. • Ability to work with complicated welding tools like ox-fuel, plasma, mag-drills, chainsaws etc. • Knowledge and respect of shop safety. • Perform physically demanding work. • Ability to work in a hot and cold environment as weather/seasons change. • Entry level welders are expected to pass technical exams in the field. Safety: • Report all incidents/accidents immediately, to include filling out the proper forms. Also report all unsafe/hazardous conditions/equipment immediately to the Shop Superintendent. • Follow established safety policies and procedures. • Must be trained to use labels and SDSs to recognize hazards and to follow appropriate protective measures. • Follow established hand washing procedures. • Participate in appropriate in-service training programs prior to performing tasks that involve potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or hazardous chemicals. • Report occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the facility’s established policies and procedures governing accidents and incidents. • Always promote safe practices. • Keep your work areas free of hazardous conditions i.e., excess supplies, equipment, etc., to assure that all established safety rules/regulations are always followed. • Report any safety hazards promptly to the Safety Director. Physical/Mental Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is required to stand for long periods of time; walk & move intermittently throughout the day; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee may be required to do heavy lifting and operate an overhead crane. Employees are subject to multiple interruptions throughout the day. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to adjust to the weather as the seasons change from extremely hot weather to extremely cold weather. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position and work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
