Welder II ($28.07/hr)

Job Description Lays out, performs fit-up, tacks, and welds parts to produce a weldment or sub- weldment. Joins various metals (aluminum, steel, stainless steel) using a full range of welding processes in different weld positions. Performs rework on product involving repair of defective welds and machined features. Performs other duties as assigned. • Works from engineering drawings, work instructions, operation/process sheets, pictures and project • specifications. • Operates manual and semi-automatic welding and plasma cutting equipment. Skilled in Gas Metal Arc Welding • (GMAW) .Operates oxy-fuel cutting equipment as well as a plasma torch for the purpose of cutting. • Operates pneumatic tooling such as grinders, sanders, drills, and threaded hole tapping • equipment for the purpose of fit up. • Uses fixtures to layout, locate and position parts and features to be welded and reworked. • Must be capable of using a band saw to fabricate simple parts as well as, spacers, tie-bars, and other items that are required in a welding department. • Inspects work using precision measuring instruments. Required Education, Experience, & Skills • A minimum of one year experience with a technical background. • Must pass GMAW overhead (4G) weld certification test in aluminum OR steel. • Must have ability to use band saw to fabricate simple parts. • Must have ability to recognize out-of-specification conditions and defects in weld workmanship. • Must have ability to complete required shop floor paperwork and documentation. • Must have ability to read and interpret drawings with weld symbols, machined features, and the UDLP/TACOM aluminum steel weld code book. • Must have the ability to work in a team oriented work environment. • Must be capable of wearing respiratory protective equipment. Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills If internal: • Must possess all the skills required of a Welder I. • A minimum of three - six months welding experience at the Vehicle Up-Grade Facility. Pay Information This position is covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which will determine your wages.
