Vice President of Sales and Business Development

Job Summary The Vice President of Sales and Business Development is responsible for driving revenue growth, building strategic customer relationships, and leading the company’s sales and estimating teams. This role combines deep technical understanding with business leadership, requiring a strong background in manufacturing, sales strategy, and operational efficiency. The VP will identify growth opportunities, oversee cost estimation accuracy, and ensure alignment between customer expectations and internal capabilities. They will also serve as a champion for quality, safety, and continuous improvement programs while mentoring future leaders within the organization. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Lead and Execute Multi-Faceted Growth: Develop and implement distinct, yet synergistic, strategic sales plans for both the core metal fabrication division emerging business units to achieve ambitious growth targets. • Mentor and Develop Sales Talent: Actively coach, train, and develop the sales and estimation teams, with a specific focus on cultivating the skills of junior hires. Establish clear performance metrics, provide consistent feedback, and foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth. • Build and maintain long-term relationships with existing and prospective customers by understanding their needs and exceeding their expectations. • Oversee and ensure the accuracy of estimates for products, projects, or services, coordinating closely with engineering and estimating departments. • Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and technical documents to determine time, cost, and labor estimates. • Identify and evaluate new business opportunities, emerging markets, and potential partnerships. • Serve as a key contact between the organization and clients, often communicating via electronic systems and technical documentation. • Stay up-to-date of industry trends, competitor activities, and market dynamics to maintain a competitive edge. • Present regular performance reports and metrics to the President/CEO and management leadership team. • Ensure departmental compliance with quality, safety, and environmental policies and procedures. • Streamline and Optimize Processes: Lead continuous improvement initiatives to refine the sales cycle, improve estimation accuracy, and enhance the overall customer experience from initial inquiry to final delivery. • Participate in contract negotiations and high-level customer engagements as required. Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred. • Minimum of 5–10 years of progressive experience in sales leadership, business development, or executive management in a manufacturing or technical environment with a proven track record of scaling revenue across multiple product lines or business units. • Experience in sheet metal fabrication or related industries is highly desirable. • Strong knowledge of estimating processes, costing models, and production capabilities. • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects. • Proven track record in building customer relationships and driving sustainable revenue growth. • Strong strategic thinking, analytical skills, and business acumen. • Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). • High ethical standards and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information. Working Conditions • Primarily an office-based role with regular interaction with production, estimating, and customer service departments. • Visits to customer sites, trade shows, suppliers, or production facilities as needed. • Noise level is typically moderate, but appropriate PPE are required in shop areas. Physical Requirements • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods (20–30 hours per week). • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. • Travel required (up to 10–15%).
