JOB Incumbents of positions in this series fabricate needed metal products, parts and tools; install, repair and maintain items of sheet metal such as those in heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems and related equipment; repair and maintain metal roofs, gutters, drains, motor vehicles and snow removal equipment; maintain a variety of hand and power vehicles and snow removal equipment; maintain a variety of hand and power tools; and perform related work as required.The basic purpose of this work is to utilize iron working and sheet metal trade skills to ensure the proper working order of heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems, motor-driven vehicles and equipment and power tools. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Fabricates miscellaneous metal products, parts and tools by cutting metal according to blueprints; forging metal by heating and hammering; and soldering, riveting or welding metal to form desired article using hand and power tools and welding and sheet metal equipment to facilitate the replacement of parts, tools, etc. not readily available.Installs, alters and repairs items of sheet metal such as heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems, mechanical pumps, etc. by repairing damaged parts or attaching new parts by welding together as specified in layouts, work orders or instructions and/or by cutting and threading pipes using power threading machine to ensure the maximum operating efficiency of such systems and equipment.Repairs and maintains motor vehicles and snow removal equipment by drilling, tapping, cutting, brazing, riveting and welding steel and sheet metal replacement parts in vehicles and equipment to ensure the safe operation of such equipment.Repairs leaks in metal roofs, walls and ceilings by soldering, crimping, riveting and welding seams in sheet metal and installing flashing and waterproof felt, gutters and drains using appropriate hand and power tools to reduce water damage and restore watertight integrity.Maintains a variety of hand and power tools by sharpening, tempering and cleaning tools in order to ensure their optimum working order.Erects, repairs and/or operates scaffolding, rigging and ladders following accepted safety practices in order to gain access to high areas.Performs related duties such as ordering materials and supplies; shoveling snow; cleaning gutters; drilling holes in signs; erecting and maintaining chain link fences; determining whether specific materials can be repaired by welding and/or brazing; and inspecting buildings to determine need for repairs.
