CLASS TITLE: CERTIFED PLUMBER REPORTS TO: Director of Districtwide Services EXEMPT STATUS: Non-Exempt APPROVED: January 14, 2016- Order #2016-1720 BASIC FUNCTION: Under direction, to perform skilled work in assembling, installing, maintaining, and repairing pipes, fittings, and fixtures pertaining to heating, water, and drainage systems; to perform semiskilled and skilled duties in other maintenance trade areas; and to do other related work as required. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: • Install general plumbing systems, and maintain and repair existing systems. • Install, maintain, and repair various types of water heating and low pressure boiler units and systems. • Install water and waste piping. • Tap water and sewer mains and laterals. • Repair and replace pipes and control valves, fittings, and a variety of other fixtures and devices. • Cut, thread pipes, and join pipes and lines utilizing a variety of techniques. • Clean and remove obstructions from drains, water, and sewer systems. • Test safety equipment and boiler water for proper mineral content. • May install and maintain backflow devices to ensure that potable water lines are protected against backflow. • May maintain and repair swimming pool equipment. • Estimate labor and material costs. • Drive a service vehicle to and from the work sites. • Plan, organize, and lay out work in accordance with blueprints, schematics, and building code requirements. • Coordinate and direct the work of other maintenance personnel. • Requisition, order and maintain an adequate inventory of plumbing related parts, supplies, and materials. • Maintain regular attendance. • Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: • Methods, materials, tools, and equipment utilized in the plumbing trade; • Applicable plumbing codes, guidelines and regulations; • Backflow prevention regulations and devices; • Boiler safety regulations and devices; • Safe working methods and procedures. ABILITY TO: • Skillfully install, maintain, and repair plumbing fixtures and systems; • Work from blueprints, shop drawings, sketches, and schematics; • Plan, lay out, and coordinate the work of others; • Accurately estimate labor and material costs; • Maintain simple records and files, and prepare complete and concise reports; • Understand and carry out oral and written directions; • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. PHYSICAL DEMANDS • The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions. • Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 75 to 100 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. • Must have an adequate range of motion in the upper extremities. • This type of work may involve ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps, and will involve walking or standing for extended periods. • Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate equipment and use hand tools, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job. • Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced.
