This position is responsible for performing plumbing repair and maintenance on city-owned facilities. An incumbent in this position may be designated “Master Plumber.” • Replaces and repairs pipes; replaces fire sprinkler heads; repairs leaks. • Repairs sinks, showers, water heaters, dishwashers, and food waste disposers; unclogs sinks, showers, and sewer lines. • Installs new plumbing equipment, including sinks, urinals, toilets, and hot water heaters; runs new water and gas lines. • Repairs irrigation pipes and heads. • Maintains an inventory of tools. • Supervises inmates. • Digs ditches. • Assists with HVAC and electrical projects as needed. • Performs preventive maintenance. • Works special events. • Performs other related duties as assigned. • Knowledge of supervisory techniques. • Knowledge of plumbing principles and tools. • Knowledge of department policies and procedures. • Skill in organizing work. • Skill in interpersonal relations. • Skill in oral and written communication. • Ability to operate machinery used in perfomrning essential job functions. • Ability to operate a motor vehicle. This position is required to supervise state inmate labor. Employee must pass the Department of Corrections three-day certification within the time frame required by this department which is normally six months but may be altered.
