Temporary Shipyard Plumber

United Support Services, Inc., founded in 2003, is an innovative engineering and technology business headquartered in San Diego, CA. We have an exciting new opportunity and are adding to our maintenance team. As a Temporary Full-Time, Shipyard Plumber for our facility on the Naval Base Kitsap in Bremerton, WA, you will be responsible for the support of heating, cooling, air conditioning and refrigeration systems onboard U.S. Navy vessels. • Military Veterans highly encouraged to apply* The job requires, but is not limited to, the following individual core competencies: • Assemble, install and repair pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes • Study plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations • Inspect structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe • Locate and mark position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors, using ruler, spirit level and plumb bob • Cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and power tools • Cut and thread pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe-threading machine • Bend pipe to required angle by use of pipe-bending machine or by placing pipe over block and bending it by hand • Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as steel, stainless steel, brass, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic, using hand tools and power tools • Join pipe by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and calks joints • Fill pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking • Install and repair plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, and dishwashers • Repair plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains • Weld holding fixtures to steel structural members • Use of industry specific hand tools, portable power tools and manually operated machine tools • Shaping, cutting, bending, fabricating, threading, fitting and assembling techniques · Support standby alert and emergency requirements after normal business hours. · Other tasks and duties as may be assigned. This position receives work assignments from a foreman, lead, or supervisor in the form of service tickets, work orders or oral instructions. Works independently or as a member of a work team. Independently determines the work sequences, tools, and materials required. Follows or refers to layout sheets, craft plans, floor plans, circuit schematics and descriptions, and manufacturers technical guidance. Determines the techniques to use and selects the proper materials. May be responsible for providing technical assistance to lower grade workers. Requires little or no supervision or checks during the progress of his/her work assignments. Completed work is either self-certified or inspected by the supervisor, foreman, or quality control personnel to insure it meet accepted practices and quality. The physical job requirement involves, but is not limited to, walking, reaching, bending-over, concentration in the presence of noise, lifting items up to 50 lbs., and traversing narrow passageways, climbing ladders/stairs, and operating in confined spaces onboard naval vessels and barges and in buildings.
