Pipefitter - Mechanical - Caribbean Position

• Position Title: Pipe Fitter • Position Location: US Virgin Islands • Industry Type: Mechanical/Commercial New Construction • Position Type: Full-Time • Position Pay: $30.00-$38.00 (Based On Experience) A mechanical contractor with over 50 years of business experience has an opening for an experienced mechanical pipefitter in the Caribbean. JOB SUMMARY: Lay out, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, and sprinkling, in mechanical construction. JOB REQUIREMENTS: • For consideration, candidates must have at least 5 years of pipefitting experience in mechanical construction. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Cut and thread pipe to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, and pipe threaders. • Must follow the direction of the project supervisor. • Attach pipes to walls, structures, and fixtures using brackets, clamps, and tools. • Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment, according to specifications, by brazing, cementing, soldering, pressing, and threading joints. • Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipelines, using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods. • Measure and mark pipes for proper installation. • Lay out of pipe systems, supports, and related equipment, following plans, details, and specifications. • Select pipe sizes and types and related materials, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications and details. • Other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: • Must be able to live and work in the Caribbean. • Must be able to use an Oxygen and Acetylene Torch to cut steel pipe • Must always put SAFETY FIRST. • Must be 18 years of age or older. • Must be able to lift 50lbs. unassisted • Must be able to perform multiple tasks safely and with quality. • Must be able to work inside and outside. • Must be able to work at various heights above the floor with a ladder, scaffold, and man-lift when required. • Must be able to work in excavated trenches. • Must own all hand tools needed to perform as a pipefitter as described in the tool list. • Must have knowledge of the piping system being installed (chilled water, heated water, steam, condensate, etc.). • Must understand construction terms. • Must be able to work overtime as required. Job Summary Hill York seeks an experienced Pipefitter to lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, weld, and maintain piping systems and related equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, and industrial processing systems. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety, quality, and efficiency in both new construction and retrofit environments. Essential Duties & Responsibilities • Layout, fit, assemble, and install a variety of piping systems according to blueprints, specifications, and job plans. • Cut, thread, and bend pipe using hand tools, power tools, and machines such as saws, pipe cutters, threading machines, and pipe benders. • Assemble and install variety of metal and nonmetal pipes, tubes, and fittings, including steel, copper, HDPE, and PVC. • Connect pipes using various methods such as welding, threading, grooved fittings, soldering, brazing, and fusion. • Secure pipes to structures using brackets, clamps, hangers, pipe stand, and anchors. • Perform welding tasks using SMA (Stick), GMAW (MIG). Or GTAW (TIG) in multiple positions (vertical, horizontal, overhead), selecting appropriate methods and tools based on project requirements. • Operate grinders and other tools to prepare materials for welding and ensure clean, accurate joints. • Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and best practices. • Follow detailed installation plans and collaborate with supervisors and team members to meet project timelines and quality standards. • Conduct pre-task planning and job hazard analysis before beginning work to identify and mitigate risks. • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times, including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots. • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations, maintaining a clean and hazard-free work environment. • Report unsafe conditions or incidents immediately to supervisors and participate in safety meetings and training sessions. • Complete any required documentation and paperwork accurately and on time. • Communicate effectively with internal teams, external customers, and subcontractors to coordinate work, resolve issues, and ensure customer satisfaction. • Operate and maintain company vehicles in compliance with safety regulations when transporting tools, materials, or traveling to job sites. #hillyork Qualifications • Ability to read and understand blueprints, technical drawings, and construction documents. • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time. • Ability to bend, twist, climb ladders, and maintain balance while working at heights. • Ability to climb stairs and ladders safely and frequently. • Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs. • Comfortable working in various environments, including confined spaces, elevated areas, and outdoor conditions. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety protocols. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Demonstrated high mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. • Ability to operate machinery and equipment such as forklifts, Lull, scissor lifts, and other material handling or aerial lift equipment safely and in compliance with company and OSHA standards. • Welding certificate is a plus but not required.
