Pipe Fitter 1st Class Location: Bellingham, WA Project Details: This project will operate on a 7/12 schedule (7 days on, 12-hour shifts). Housing accommodations will be provided on the vessel for the duration of the assignment. The expected project timeline is approximately 2 to 3 weeks. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned. • Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair according to specifications. • Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipelines, using pressure gauges, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods. • Select pipe sizes and types and related materials, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications. • Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading. • Attach pipes to walls, structures, and fixtures such as radiators, exchangers, or tanks, using brackets, clamps, tools, or welding equipment. • Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment, according to specifications, by using welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, and threading joint methods. • Layout or review full scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, and related equipment, following blueprints. Ability to provide sketches or corrections on drawings as needed. • Turn valves to shut off steam, water, or other gases or liquids from pipe sections, using valve keys or wrenches. (Marine divisions only) • Cut, thread, and install pipe to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, and pipe threaders and benders. • Remove and replace worn components. Required Education & Experience: • High School Diploma, one year certificate from college or technical school preferred. • Industrial and/or marine pipe fitting experience: • 1st Class:3-5 years • 2nd Class:1-3 years • Pass the Gulf Copper written pipe fitter and/or hands-on pipe fitter test when applicable. • NCCER card preferred. Working Conditions: • Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, etc. • Must wear hearing, eye, head protection and proper PPE. • Some climbing (100 feet) and lifting (50 lbs.) involved. • Traverse gangways and scaffolding at varying heights while wearing fall prevention equipment. • Working with hot and sometimes hazardous materials. • Aboard ships, both on and offshore as well as confined spaces. • Must be able to stand and operate equipment up to four continuous hours. • The work requires long periods of sitting in awkward positions, standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching, and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structural members. Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience • Minimum of four (4) years or more in refinery maintenance/turnaround/or construction experience. • A general knowledge of basic hand tools. Must be able to pass the Pipefitter Skills Test at or above 70% or complete the NCCER certification for your craft. • Complete Matrix Service Safety training, Process Safety Management training and Client / Site specific training. • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active status within the approved drug testing program. • Must pass background check.
