Laborer | Government Jobs The Dougherty County Public Works Department is hiring on a continuous basis for a Laborer. The purpose of this position is to safely and efficiently perform skilled and unskilled work such as carpentry, masonry, construction, and custodial tasks. Responsibilities may include mixing cement, laying bricks, operating power saws, maintaining grounds, assisting with road construction, or performing custodial and housekeeping duties. Work may vary depending on the department assigned. This position works under general supervision, developing work methods and sequences independently. Key Responsibilities: • Perform work in accordance with established quality and safety standards. • Use county vehicles for deliveries, pickups, and hauling equipment and supplies. • Perform light repair work. • Clean offices, garage areas, and bathrooms. • Assist with road construction, such as patching potholes. • Assist with the installation of drainage and water pipes. • Operate gas-powered tools like chain saws, packers, concrete saws, and cement mixers. • Use hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes, and carpentry tools. • Remove roadkill and obstructive debris. • Redirect traffic during work operations when necessary. • Maintain litter control onsite and on roads. • Handle vehicle detailing and fuel ticket completion. • Collaborate with inmates for work detail. • Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications: • Minimum of 1 year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Supplemental Information Physical Demands: Performs medium work involving walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing, and raising objects. Requires exerting 20-50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally. Work Environment Hazards: May involve unavoidable hazards that could lead to injury despite precautions. Certifications and Licenses: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. The successful candidate for this role will have an uncompromising focus on safety excellence.
