General Construction Laborer

POSITION SUMMARY Perform tasks involving physical labor at pool construction sites. May operate hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, and clean up rubble, debris, and other waste materials. May assist other craft workers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Report to work in a timely manner and collect all the necessary contract-related information for work scheduled that day. • Ensure that all necessary equipment and materials are loaded for transport to jobsite. • Clean and prepare construction sites each day and maintain them through completion. This includes making sure that each job site is left in an orderly and safe manner at the completion of a scheduled work day. • Unload and distribute materials to location as designated by the foreman. • Assist Foreman with wall and liner installation, plumbing, digging ditches, work concrete, and any other necessary job duties assigned. • Ensure all tools and equipment are used properly and in a safe manner as well as performing regular preventative maintenance on these items. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 1-4 years of general construction experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. CREW MEMBER DUTIES INCLUDE • Using your landscaping and/or construction experience and people skills to be an effective team member. • Successfully working in different weather conditions (heat, cold etc.) • Using bolts, nails, aligns, and blocks up under forms. • Signaling operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications. • Leveling earth to fine grade specifications. Positions, joins, aligns, and seals pipe sections. • Erecting scaffolding, shoring, and braces. • Moping, brushing, and/or spreading paints or bituminous compounds over surfaces for protection. • Spraying materials such as water, sand, steam, vinyl, paint, or stucco through hose to clean, coat, or seal surfaces. • Applying caulking compounds by hand or with caulking gun to seal crevices. • Grinding, sanding, and/or polishing surfaces such as concrete, marble, terrazzo, or wood flooring. • Demolishing buildings, sawing lumber, dismantling forms, removing projections from concrete, mounting pipe hangers, and cutting and attaching insulating material. QUALIFICATIONS • A solid work ethic and good teamwork skills • Skills in various construction techniques and equipment. • High school degree or GED is preferred. • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lb. • A valid driver license and a clean driving record is a plus. • Ability to read and write. • Must have the minimum of 6 months of experience in landscaping or construction. • Horticulture knowledge and standards of planting, digging, and mulching is preferred. • Knowledge of irrigation, landscape lighting, drainage, and other landscape-related trades is a plus. • The use of heavy equipment is a plus (i.e. bobcats, excavator, skid-steer loader etc.) • Must be able to travel.
