Solar Operations, Field Performance & Installation Manager

About the Role We are seeking a highly skilled, hands-on Solar Operations & Field Performance Manager who can oversee solar installation projects and serve as an on-site installer when needed. This hybrid role requires strong field leadership, advanced technical knowledge of solar electrical installation, and the ability to support office-based project coordination, design review, and material planning. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in PV system installation, team management, and operational oversight. Key Responsibilities Field / On-Site Management & Installation • Manage daily activities of solar installation crews, ensuring adherence to timelines, productivity goals, and workflow efficiency. • Perform hands-on solar installations when needed, including panel mounting, electrical wiring, conduit runs, inverter installation, and system commissioning. • Ensure all solar-related electrical work complies with NEC, local codes, and company quality standards. • Conduct on-site quality inspections, safety audits, and progress assessments. • Troubleshoot field issues and provide technical guidance to installers and subcontractors. • Improve installation turnaround times and elevate overall work quality. • Mentor and train field teams on best installation practices, safety, and technical methods. Equipment & Inventory Management • Maintain accurate records of all company equipment, tools, and installation materials. • Track equipment assignments, locations, condition, and availability. • Coordinate distribution, pickup, and return of tools or materials to and from job sites. • Assist with equipment forecasting and ensure crews have the resources needed for upcoming projects. • Report damaged or missing equipment and oversee repair or replacement processes. Office / Project Support Tasks • Review solar system designs for accuracy, constructability, and compliance prior to installation. • Validate bill of materials (BOM), equipment lists, layouts, and interconnection details. • Review and update scopes of work to ensure clarity, completeness, and alignment with project requirements. • Support material costing, budgeting, and procurement decision-making. • Collaborate with design, engineering, project management, and sales teams to ensure seamless project transitions. • Contribute to process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing quality, efficiency, and documentation. Qualifications • 3–5+ years of experience in solar installation, electrical work, or construction management. • Proven ability to install all aspects of solar PV electrical systems, including wiring, grounding, conduit, inverter setup, and interconnection. • Strong knowledge of NEC requirements, local building codes, and solar installation best practices. • Experience managing field crews or subcontractors. • Ability to interpret solar designs, electrical schematics, and scopes of work. • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills. • Familiarity with solar design or project tools (Aurora, Helioscope, CAD, etc.) preferred. • Valid driver’s license; ability to travel between job sites.
