Wind Technician - Tower Wiring

IMPORTANT ***THIS IS A TRAVELING TECHNICIAN ROLE*** Our Wind Projects are located throughout the US. This job entails climbing wind turbines with heights up to 300ft. Per Diem is available for those who qualify Under direct supervision from higher-level technical supervisory and/or management staff, the Wind Technician utilizes skills and training to perform installation work on assigned wind turbines at a basic level. The Wind Technician will follow specific schedules and procedures including safety protocol, installation processes, and other direct and detailed verbal and written instructions. The Wind Technician is regarded as the “entry-level” team member on the technician team and will have minimal customer interface. Responsibilities • Closely adheres to all safety standards and procedures. • Identifies risks and gaps in safety execution in the operational environment and either stops work / escalates or implements defined and appropriate mitigation methods with appropriate oversight. Demonstrates risk-averse safety behavior at all times. • Provides recommendations to higher-level technical staff and management regarding everything safety. Encourages and recognizes others completing safe acts and intervenes when unsafe acts are practiced. • Demonstrates integrity, strong initiative, work ethic, as well as a focus on safety and quality of work on a continuous basis. • Performs basic level wind turbine installation tasks as assigned. This includes introductory operation and the use of tools and basic turbine equipment. Documents tasks where required. • Effectively gathers information regarding equipment (e.g. turbine) status. Seeks assistance when encountering turbine issues outside trained skill levels to ensure success in execution. • Follows defined instructions and installation schedules, executing plans as directed, and performs according to reasonably detailed written and verbal instructions. • Effectively contributes to a strong team environment through assisting teammates in accomplishing mutual goals, supporting and promoting team spirit and cooperation. • Proactively looks for improvement opportunities to job-related processes and procedures and communicates through appropriate channels. • Interfaces with the customer at a minimal level; may respond to some basic customer inquiries and will refer most customer inquiries to higher-level technical staff or managers. Demonstrates strong customer focus at all times. • This role will require travel, working overtime, including working a flexible and variable work schedule as needed to meet business objectives. • Perform other tasks as assigned Qualifications • High school diploma or equivalent. • Prefer individuals with previous Tower Wiring Experience • Minimum one (1) year of professional experience working with hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and/or composite skills OR in absence of experience, a certificate of completion from an accepted Wind Technician program of equivalent scope. • Ability to demonstrate basic industrial safety practices/protocols including LOTO and Test-Verify-Test. • Experience using basic power and hydraulic tools. • Valid Driver’s License and ability to obtain a Passport. • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions with precise execution. • Good interpersonal and customer relation skills. • Able to effectively collaborate with employees at all professional levels and the ability to respectfully follow supervision. • Basic computer operation skills and familiarity with internet-based program navigation. • Ability to read, interpret and understand basic drawings and schematics Additional Required Abilities • Ability to speak, read, comprehend, and write in English. • Ability to climb stairs and ladders 200-400 feet in height. • Ability to lift, push, pull, carry items up to 50 lbs in weight. • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time. • Ability to grip and manually manipulate, often with repetitive motion, items such as, but not limited to, hand tools, turbine parts. • Comfort working in confined spaces and at heights over 300 feet. • Ability to successfully participate in all training courses, including controlled descent. • Regular walking. • Ability to hear and use close range radios. • A strong field of vision including visual depth perception and ability to distinguish colors. • Able to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.Comfort working remotely in a Turbine as part of a team with limited supervisory interaction. Renewable Energy Specialist

Responsibilities The Renewable Energy Specialist will be a subject matter expert on alternative and renewable energy sources for OPPD. This role will contribute to the Renewable Energy Resources team with exploration, analysis, and application of emerging technologies, including renewable energy. This position will balance a technical understanding of the renewable energy landscape and emerging technologies with the ability to communicate conceptual solutions to project teams, management, and customers of both technical and non-technical backgrounds. Additionally, this role will lead the organization and coordination of renewable energy data from vendors, industry experts, and OPPD facility operations. Analyze the renewable energy landscape as it pertains to industry trends, emerging technologies, the application of innovative solutions and its integration into new customer products and internal system designs. Support the identification and exploration of emerging technologies in pursuit of delivering new opportunities and renewable energy value to OPPDs customers. This role is responsible for identifying potential renewable energy solutions, plotting/recommending applications, building business case justifications, and integrating new renewable energy solutions into OPPD design environments in support of OPPDs renewable energy program. 1. Subject Matter Expertise: Understand the changing renewable energy landscape as it pertains to industry trends, emerging technologies, and the application of innovation solutions. Leverage OPPDs current renewable energy assets and resources, as well as emerging technologies, to conceptualize new ideas and applications, to address the needs of the business and OPPDs customers. - Establish an ongoing process for monitoring, updating, and informing the business on emerging technology, industry trends, and associated costs. - Conduct economic analysis on the viability of emerging renewable energy solutions. - Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of the technical components of technology: battery storage, solar, wind, etc. - Collaborate, support, and share information with OPPD functions, including but not limited to: Resource Planning, System Planning, Energy Marketing, Customer Service, Non-Traditional Sources (NTS) initiative, and other strategic initiatives or project teams. - Provide subject matter expertise and serve as a central point of contact for data and analysis pertaining to renewable energy information. 2. Renewable Energy Data Organization: Collaborate with Manager Renewable Energy Resources in the design of departmental policies, processes, systems and annualized plans that will effectively and efficiently deliver the objectives of the department. - Create integrated process for collecting, updating, and monitoring OPPD renewable energy data. - Develop central repository and organization for renewable energy data in the company, this includes operational data from wind, solar, etc. - Maintain a library of ideas and opportunities for current and future consideration. 3. Project Input: Collaborate with Project Teams as a technical expert on the development, availability and application of renewable energy solutions. - Participate in the conceptual scoping and/or design of renewable energy projects. - Advise project teams on considerations for the technical design of solutions (Inverter size, etc.). - Provide subject matter expertise for technology applications in projects. - Support Project Manager, Renewable Energy as needed. 4. Effective Communication: Communicate technical ideas, opportunities, decisions, and learnings across functions and the various levels of OPPD to support the growth of renewable energy consideration, dialogue, and integration. - Develop strong internal and external resources to support the communication and sharing of information and ideas with regard to renewable energy solutions for customer and company specific objectives. - Build collaborative internal relationships to champion ideas, eliminate barriers, secure engagement and accelerate execution. - Help project teams, OPPD functions, and customers understand conceptual application of renewable energy solutions.
