Skilled Welding Craftsman

Job Description You will serve as a skilled craftsman in the Department of the Navy, specializing in welding. This role involves working at various naval shipyards, including Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Trident Refit Facility Bangor, and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility. The selected candidate will be responsible for identifying and associating metals, alloys, and filler metal by color code and standard markings. They will also produce welds to the acceptance standards of NDT, strength, tightness, or pressure tests. In addition, the successful candidate will use test methods for determining metals or alloys, inspect completed welding projects, and utilize various welding machines and welding processes to weld piping parts or structures. Requirements • Must be a US Citizen • Must be determined suitable for federal employment • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check • Must meet other eligibility requirements as specified in the job posting Qualifications This position requires applicants to have the ability to interpret instructions and specifications, including blueprint reading, and use and maintain tools and equipment. The ideal candidate should possess knowledge of metals and technical practices, as well as the ability to use measuring instruments. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and provide evidence of their skills and qualifications through relevant experience and training.
