Welding/Mechanics Teacher at Ruidoso High School

Date: April 17, 2025 Position: Welding/Mechanics Teacher at Ruidoso High School Position Overview: Ruidoso High School is seeking a dedicated Welding/Mechanics Teacher to instruct high school students in welding, mechanics, and fabrication. The ideal candidate will teach industry-relevant skills, safety practices, and professional standards, preparing students for entry-level positions in welding and maintenance mechanics. Hands-on instruction and potential student certification opportunities will be key components of this role. Qualifications: • Required: New Mexico Public Education Department teaching license in Secondary Vocational Technical or appropriate industry/professional certifications in welding or mechanics. • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a related field. • Preferred: Ability to obtain welding certification to become adjunct faculty with ENMU-Ruidoso Responsibilities: Instruction & Curriculum Development: • Teach welding and mechanics skills, techniques, and safety procedures. • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with industry standards. • Use diverse teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles and skill levels. • Provide hands-on instruction in shop and laboratory settings. • Guide students in selecting appropriate class projects and supervised occupational experiences. Student Engagement & Classroom Management: • Maintain a safe, organized, and productive learning environment. • Instruct students on the proper use of tools, equipment, and safety protocols. • Establish and enforce classroom rules to ensure student safety and engagement. • Provide individual and small-group instruction to meet diverse student needs. • Manage student behavior in a positive and consistent manner that aligns with school policies. Assessment & Communication: • Evaluate student progress through assessments and hands-on demonstrations. • Maintain records of student performance and prepare progress reports. • Maintain open communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and academic needs. Program & Equipment Management: • Oversee and maintain an inventory of tools, materials, and equipment. • Request repairs and ensure the proper care of school-owned resources. • Manage the program budget and follow school accounting procedures. Collaboration & Professional Development: • Work collaboratively with department staff and actively participate in department goals. • Maintain a professional and cooperative attitude in all interactions. • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to enhance student learning and the overall school environment. • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and Professional Learning Teams. Other Duties: • Perform additional duties as assigned by the principal or school administration. Physical Requirements: • Ability to stand for extended periods while instructing and demonstrating techniques. • Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling for hands-on instruction and equipment handling. • Ability to lift, carry, and move objects up to 50 lbs, such as tools, welding equipment, and materials. • Tolerance to work in environments with noise, dust, heat, and fumes associated with welding and mechanics. • Dexterity to handle and manipulate small parts, tools, and machinery safely. • Vision and hand-eye coordination sufficient for detailed welding and mechanical work. • Ability to wear and work in appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, safety glasses, and welding helmets, for extended periods.
